About

Bespoke: Unique items handcrafted for unique people.

Lady Maggie is a collaborative effort by husband and wife team Richard and Rebecca Clafton. We've taken our love of the quirky (and sometimes geeky) and combined old fashioned crafting with 21st century technology.

Originally, Lady Maggie started out as a sideline business for me (Rebecca) to sell handmade applique pillows and dog accessories. We named the shop after our beloved rescue Pug, Maggie.

When Richard noticed that I spent an extraordinary amount of time hand cutting each piece of applique, he thought there had to be a more efficient and less stressful way to cut the fabric. As Richard never thinks small, this soon turned into a quest. After exhaustive research, it was decided that a laser cutter would be an excellent tool for the job but also would allow us to branch into additional items we had been considering, such as dog tags and glass candle holders.

And so we bought a CO2 laser. Richard, the Techie, soon caught the bug and began experimenting with an array of materials. Not just fabric and paper, but soon slate, wood, acrylic and metal.

That first Christmas we offered custom engraved wooden ornaments with silhouettes of pets, personalized with their names as a fundraiser for the Pug rescue where we adopted Maggie. We were overwhelmed by the response and the orders flooded in. A light bulb went off! We looked for non-seasonal items to create after Christmas and hit upon engraved key chains.

Our wood key chains quickly began outselling our pillows and dog beds. We began experimenting with different woods with an array of stains. A childhood passion for painting was awakened as I learned about airbrushing techniques. We branched out into acrylic key rings, earrings and cake toppers. The business took off as people appreciated our unique designs. The next logical step was the addition of a Fiber laser, to allow easier engraving of metals. We bought a vinyl cutter and heat press so we could offer our own designs on pillowcases. Then, a sand carver was added so we could engrave stone and higher detail glass designs. We can now engrave nearly any material, and we offer everything from wooden chopping boards to slate coasters to memorial stones.

Richard, originally from Leeds, England, uses his past experience as a graphic designer and all around IT guru to use the latest software to help him bring his designs to life. While I, a former NASA geek originally from Florida, am able to bring my passion for crafting and handmade creations to the mix. Together, we make things that we like, our friends like, and hopefully our customers like too.

About our materials:

All of our wood is ethically sourced and sustainable. We use the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species and the Forest Stewardship Council certifications to ensure that we are using only sustainable resources. Whenever possible, we use reclaimed wood. As most of our items are small, we are able to use offcuts or waste products from other manufacturers, reducing the carbon footprint of these materials. We are committed to creating attractive, high quality items in an environmentally responsible manner.

We use the following wood species:

Bamboo: As everyone knows, bamboo is one of the most eco-friendly woods available. It is one of the fastest-growing plants in the world, which means it is a highly renewable and extremely sustainable resource.

Birch ply: Baltic birch ply differs from traditional plywood because the inner layers are solid birch veneers, not composite material.

Birch trees are sustainable and considered a renewable resource because they are abundant and fast growing. Birch trees can reach maturity up to twice as fast as oak. There is no destruction or disruption of biodiversity when birch is felled.

Maple, Eastern Cherry, Red Oak, Walnut, Yellow Poplar (Tuliptree): We use these woods for their grain and appearance. These are native to North America, FSC-certified and sustainable wood species.

Our finishes:

Shellac: Shellac is a natural, non-toxic and hypo-allergenic finish. Shellac is completely edible, and is in fact used in medications, food processing and to coat fresh fruit for transport. This makes it ideal for finishing wood items which might end up in the mouths of children, though we would never recommend using our wooden keyrings as teething rings! 

Polycrylic: A small number of our items require a more durable and waterproof finish. For those items we use polycrylic instead of polyurethane. This is a water-based formula, which means our clean-up involves only soap and water instead of harsh solvents.

We send proofs for all personalized cutting boards and stones - we do not accept returns on these items after approval has been given.

Any exchanges or returns must be made within 7 days to receive a full refund of the purchase price. Between 7-14 days, refunds will be 50% of original purchase price. After 14 days, no refunds will be given.

Shipping
Please read each listing for shipping details - our most fragile items are shipped via USPS Priority Mail which includes insurance.

Please ensure that your DELIVERY address is correct when placing your order. Requesting an address change afterwards will cause your order to be cancelled so you can correct your details.

Our larger cutting boards, stones and heavier items are shipped via USPS Flat Rate boxes as this is the most economical method. Many other items have the option of 1st Class or Priority delivery for you to select upon checkout. If you're in a hurry but forgot to upgrade your shipping, we have shipping upgrades available as a separate purchase in our store.

** FREE SHIPPING IS TO A SINGLE U.S. ADDRESS ONLY **
We will not split orders into separate packages to separate addresses. The free shipping offer is to a single US address only. Standard shipping only; upgrades to next class of shipping (ie. USPS 1st Class upgrade to USPS Priority) are available for purchase only and are not included in the Ship Free offer.

For all items which ship via USPS (except decals - see below) we will send you a tracking number with your shipping notification. Once the package in the hands of the USPS it is out of our control and we are not responsible for delivery times. Please check your tracking number with the online USPS system for status of items. (please check the USPS website for the most accurate tracking information - sometimes the Etsy tracking tool does not have full details listed.) Please note we do not issue refunds for non-delivery/missing items if USPS tracking & insurance was not purchased. We reserve the right to offer replacements.
If there is an issue with delivery, contact the USPS. We cannot do anything about a package not being delivered, only the Post Office can!

All decals ship free to US addresses. Decals are shipped via USPS First Class but do not include tracking. You may purchase a shipping upgrade for tracking if desired.

We use the Etsy shipping tool, which means the postage label is printed with your name and address as you have it listed with Etsy. We are not responsible for errors in your profile details with Etsy. Please be sure that the ship-to address is correct when you place your order or we will cancel your order so you can correct your Etsy account.

We are happy to ship most items internationally. If your country is not listed as an option for shipping, please email us and we will let you know if it is available for shipping to your location.
Additional policies and FAQs
FAQ:
Q: How do I add my details for personalization?
A: List your text/dates/recipe name in the Personalization field when you check out.

Q: Do you combine shipping?
A: Yes! Etsy's shipping calculator will calculate a total, but if when we package the items the shipping is less than that, we will refund the difference.

Q: When will my item ship?
A: There is an estimated processing time listed for all items. Stock items are listed as 3-5 days but are currently shipping within 1-3 days. Custom items like cutting boards and checkers are created when ordered, so take longer - about a week. Memorial stones may take between 1-2 weeks due to the multi-step process.

Q: This is a gift - can I send a message with it?
A: Yes! Select the "Gift Item" option - no receipt will be included in the package but any message you type will be. If you do not include a message it will simply read "A Gift For You!" to the recipient.

Q: Do you offer discounts for large orders?
A: Yes! We often work with realtors, corporate event planners, brides and wedding planners to fulfill large custom orders. We can often create a custom one-of-a-kind item for the special day. Please email us at info [!at] ladymaggie.com or contact us through Etsy conversation to enquire.

Q: Do you offer wholesale discounts?
A: Yes! We work with retail shops, online shops, subscription box companies and wedding planners throughout the US. We do require your resale tax ID to verify your reseller status before offering Wholesale terms. Please contact us to find out more.

I use your information to provide the services you requested and in my legitimate interest to improve my services; and 2) Compliance with the Etsy Seller Policy and Terms of Use. I use your information as necessary to comply with my obligations under the Etsy Seller Policy and Terms of Use.

Information Sharing and Disclosure

Information about my customers is important to my business. I share your personal information for very limited reasons and in limited circumstances, as follows:

• Etsy. I share information with Etsy as necessary to provide you my services and comply with my obligations under both the Etsy Seller Policy and Etsy Terms of Use.

I retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to provide you with my services and as described in my Privacy Policy. However, I may also be required to retain this information to comply with my legal and regulatory obligations, to resolve disputes, and to enforce my agreements. I generally keep your data for the following time period: 7 years.

Transfers of Personal Information Outside the EU

I may store and process your information through third-party hosting services in the US and other jurisdictions. As a result, I may transfer your personal information to a jurisdiction with different data protection and government surveillance laws than your jurisdiction. If I am deemed to transfer information about you outside of the EU, I rely on Privacy Shield as the legal basis for the transfer, as Google Cloud is Privacy Shield certified.

Your Rights

If you reside in certain territories, including the EU, you have a number of rights in relation to your personal information. While some of these rights apply generally, certain rights apply only in certain limited cases. I describe these rights below:

• Access. You may have the right to access and receive a copy of the personal information I hold about you by contacting me using the contact information below.

• Object. You can object to (i) my processing of some of your information based on my legitimate interests and (ii) receiving marketing messages from me after providing your express consent to receive them. In such cases, I will delete your personal information unless I have compelling and legitimate grounds to continue using that information or if it is needed for legal reasons.
• Complain. If you reside in the EU and wish to raise a concern about my use of your information (and without prejudice to any other rights you may have), you have the right to do so with your local data protection authority.

How to Contact Me

For purposes of EU data protection law, I, Rebecca Clafton, am the data controller of your personal information. If you have any questions or concerns, you may contact me at info [!at] ladymaggie.com.
