My Journey Into Natural Hair and Natural Products

I used to have really damaged hair. It was from a combination of being over-processed by chemical relaxers and years of using too much of the wrong types of products. The products I was using just temporarily enhanced the hair, but did not really nourish it. So the long term result was hair that was chronically dry, limp, full of split ends and that was always shedding and breaking.

In 2010 I had the opportunity to start a few classes in cosmetology school. It opened my eyes to the actual biological structure of the hair shaft, and awakened in me a desire to protect all the various layers of the hair from root to tip.

Coincidentally a year or so later I became interested in natural lifestyle topics for my health and life in general, which of course did not exclude my hair.

In 2012 I was able to let go of chemical relaxers all together. I began to really focus on nourishing my hair through deep conditioning treatments, using oils and gentle protective styling (for example 2-strand twists instead of high-traction braids and weaves).

I also began to speak life into my hair and understood and saw that my hair would flourish if I gave it love. It was not just about products or techniques.

As my hair began to thrive I also realized that my desire to take care of the hair of others was not really aligned with being behind a chair as a stylist, but more so teaching others how to truly care for and treasure their crown.

I started researching and experimenting with herbs and oils even more. In the process I found a mentor who was able to help me hone my vision and start creating truly herbal, organic, effective products that were market ready.

Today I am so honored and delighted to share this journey and love with you in the form of Lakeshia's Goddess Touch. It is my hope that this line - through its products and philosophy on self-care, will allow many sisters and brothers to embrace their natural hair and give it the attention that it craves.

My prayer is that all people who come in contact with my brand can know and feel that the love that was put into this product is also a love that is available to them. They can give to themselves and others on a daily basis.
