Welcome to Silver Heron Studios!

I am an artist, art teacher, and maker, and love exploring different mediums to create unique items for you! In this shop you will find a wide range of items, from fine oil paintings, to world coin and sterling silver jewelry, to whatever else catches my fancy to make!

If you are looking for a custom painting, feel free to contact me or browse my portfolio of paintings at http://lam.gallery/

About My Painting:

I started painting as a child after seeing the detailed wildlife artwork of Robert Bateman and Carl Brenders, as well as paintings in museums. I remember studying these paintings up close and being amazed at how detailed and lifelike these images could be, and I had a desire to learn how it was done.

Most popular and public artwork was, of course, modern in style, and it seemed no one was teaching traditional painting techniques. So, using the power of the Internet, I began studying art and art techniques through online forums, books, and other sources.

I enjoy the challenge that painting realism creates. Much like the slow-food movement, there is a certain appreciation and quality that comes with taking one's time with the creation of a work of art. Many of these paintings took weeks or months to complete, and are built up in meticulous layers. For some of the miniatures that might be shown here, I use a 10/0 spotter brush only a few hairs thick.

Thank you for taking the time to appreciate my artwork, and I hope that you enjoy your purchase as much as I have enjoyed creating it.

The "Direct from the Artist" Advantage
Many collectors, when they consider buying works of art, they think of going to a gallery. However, galleries, with their brick and mortar locations, have many expenses - building rent, utilities, upkeep - and all of this must be factored into the price of the work of art. When buying a painting directly from the artist, you receive the same quality art, at a lower cost.

About the Art

As a realist artist, I can spend days, weeks, or even months on a single painting. With oils, I use a technique called glazing, which consists of many layers of oil paint applied thinly to the painting. Each layer must dry for over a day before the next can be applied. While this technique is extremely time-consuming, it allows for a luminescent effect in the final painting, as light must pass through several translucent layers of oil, much like a stained glass window.

About the Artist

While I have been painting for most of my life, I have recently had the opportunity to exhibit my work locally, and have been honored to receive extensive local recognition, including four Best of Show awards, numerous other awards, as well as requests to exhibit in public venues.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Are these real coins?
Yes! These are authentic coins - many of these are no longer in circulation.

Can I request a certain year?
Yes! Message me before buying - I will look through my collection to see if I can find that year. The years each coin was minted will vary. I can also look for alternate options if the year you are looking for is not available.

Where can I find out more information about my coin?
I refer to an online encyclopedia of coins at http://en.numista.com/ - you can find out more about the coin you are looking at there!

Do you sell chains?
Yes, I typically keep 18" and 20" sterling silver chains, as well as gold-plated chains in stock, and the gold-plated chains have an extender that allows for adjustments from 18-20".
There is an add-on item listing for chains in the shop here:
http://www.etsy.com/listing/853074461/add-on-item-sterling-silver-or-gold

Can you make other items with the coins?
I would be happy to discuss custom projects!

When will I receive my order?
Each item is custom made when you order it! I have a longer shipping time listed on the shop in case I have a backlog of items, but typically orders ship in 1-2 weeks. If you need your order faster, message me and I will try to get it done sooner.

What does the back look like?
For the coins that are domed, the back will be concave, with a sterling silver ring soldered to the top edge of the back. The design of the back is typically still visible, but you may see some hammer marks.
For the coins that are set in a bezel, the back will have a ring around the edge but the center is open and visible.

What is the metal of the pendants?
The pendants are the metal that the coin was originally made from. If you are worried about any allergies, let me know in the order notes section that you would like your item lacquered.

How do I care for my pendant?
Silver-colored coins can be shined with a silver-polishing cloth.
Gold and copper-colored coins have been lacquered to keep them shiny.
If you are worried about any allergies, let me know in the order notes section that you would like your item lacquered.

Can I wear my pendant in the shower/pool?
To keep the best possible appearance, wearing the pendant in the shower/pool is not recommended.
