About

Where earth and art meet.

Alex and Lisa are potters and partners, in life and in the studio. We collaborate on nearly everything that comes through the studio, passing work back and forth throughout the process.

This collaboration, which grew naturally through our marriage, allows the pots to take on lives of their own, as we give up ownership of them. One of us conceives of a pot, the other might birth it, and as the process unfolds with the pot passing between us, the pot becomes more than the original idea.

All of this happens while life unfolds around us. Our two boys wander in and out of the studio while the chickens peer in the windows. The Appalachian Mountains do their best to distract us from our back door. We rush to and from schools, visit galleries, photograph work, ship pottery, and just try to keep making pots that bring us joy.

This life gets hectic, but we do what we love with the people we love. We can't imagine that we could be any more blessed.

Shop policies

Alex and Lisa LaPella are potters who believe that are and beauty should infiltrate the everyday. We believe there is an honor in owning a work of art created by another. We believe when you are able to touch the art of another human being, you are in fact touching a piece of their soul. If the artwork is something that you can use, something that can sneak into your everyday experience, you will feel the love, creativity, and talent of the maker every time you use it.

Payment
We accept Paypal.

Your payment is expected to be made at the time of your order. If you choose to pay with an eCheck via Paypal, your order will ship when the eCheck clears, usually within one week.

Shipping
Our ceramics are very carefully packaged. We re-use and recycle packaging materials where ever possible. If you are concerned for the environment, too, you may take your packaging materials to the nearest independent mailing center. They are happy to reuse bubble wrap and styrofoam peanuts and they will even recycle your cardboard for you!

We pack our boxes so that they can be dropped from the back of a truck and still remain whole. Often, the boxes appear "too large" for the item you are expecting. This is to insure that the risk of breakage is extremely low. We have been shipping ceramics for nearly 15 years and we can still count the breakage incidents on one hand.

For Domestic Orders:
Generally, we ship within three business days. Our preferred shipping methods are USPS Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation or UPS Ground. All orders over $50 are insured regardless of the shipper.

For International Orders:
Most international orders will be shipped via USPS First Class International. If an order exceeds 4 pounds (1.8kg), it will be upgraded to Priority International.

Customers are responsible for duties and taxes on their item. These may be due upon pick up of your items. We will be honest and forthright on customs forms.
Refunds and Exchanges
We want our customers to be happy with their purchases. If you are unsatisfied, please contact us right away. Refunds will be made upon the return of an item. Refunds will be in the amount of the price of the item. We will not refund shipping costs.

If breakage occurs on an uninsured item, please let us know and we will work with your to rectify the situation. We may send a replacement or refund the purchase price.

If breakage occurs on an insured item, we will work with you to file the claim. The shipper should reimburse your loss and then you can decide whether to order again or not.

Custom orders require a non refundable deposit of at least 50%. Personalized orders will require payment in full before the project is begun.
Additional policies and FAQs
We are open to custom orders, but we usually have a wait time of 6 weeks on custom orders.

All of our glazes are food safe and lead free. Our pottery is microwave and dishwasher safe as well.
