Welcome to La Petite Menagerie, or, The Little Collection. I recently moved back to Seattle, WA after 3 years in Oakland, CA. I've been surrounded by and involved in many aspects of the theatrical performance world... and that's reflected in my creations. My recent tryst with the circus has left me rhinestoning and feathering things! (And yes, I turned them into verbs! )
My shop hosts a collection of whatever my current craftiness has created, be it costume, clothing, hats, or poi. The list will, I'm sure, go on.
Thank you for stopping by and please message me if you have any questions or would like to request a custom item.

About

I've always known I would be a seamstress.

I was first taught to sew as a 7 year old in the attic of my 4-H leader's garage. Throughout my youth I experimented (with sewing techniques!) and taught myself the basics. But what started as one of many interests became my passion when I decided to get formal training and earned my Bachelor's Degree in Costume Design in 2008, and I've since completed my Industry Certification in Patternmaking in San Francisco.

After traveling the world and moving to the Bay Area with the boy of my dreams, I started La Petite Menagerie as an outlet for my creative pursuits. A long jaunt costuming with the local circus left a big, sparkly impression on my work.
An apprenticeship with Bay Area renowned Milliner, Topsy Turvy Design, taught me the basics and more in hat construction, and while I watched the elaborate headdresses being constructed at Teatro Zinzanni I took mental notes.
I've learned corset making from the fabulous women of Dark Garden Corsetry in San Francisco, where I worked for a year as their stock cutter & stitcher and I also spent a year at Seattle's Period Corsets, sewing corsets, petticoats & historical undergarments for stage & screen!

Always loving historical fiction and fantasy, my design interest was already focused to a historical tilt. But the direction my line is currently going is towards vintage inspired Glamour. I'm planning on incorporating more daily wear items, while still playing with costume pieces!

I am available for custom work. I do custom Millinery, Alternative Bridal, Alterations, Corsetry, Vintage Reconstruction and Reproduction, and pretty much whatever you could want. And I will soon be found at local Seattle markets! Check back for updates!
