From our farm to you.

La Piccolina is the family adventure we launched in 2012: a 107 acre farm in Uruguay, South America. I quit my wonderful job in corporate Archives, followed my parents to South America, and started learning how to farm. We knew nothing about farming but that which we'd read. So, we started from scratch. Literally. We have developed a strong commitment to permaculture; we work to combine a dairy herd, two flocks of sheep, various fowl, orchards, vegetable garden, windbreaks, and water elements to create a stable, self-renewing ecosystem.

La Piccolina Farm is our way to share our farm products, starting with gorgeous wool from our pastured, pampered flocks of sheep. We shear once a year in October. We process all wool here on the farm which allows us to enjoy the wool as well as the sheep. As a long-time fiber lover I was nearly giddy when we sheared for the first time and I found myself with over a dozen fresh wooly fleeces. Wool is my favorite fiber: renewable, versatile, comes in a range of natural colors, lengths, and diameter, and offers unlimited creative opportunity for artisans and crafters alike.

I'm learning that a successful farm is a very productive farm. Careful and responsible farm management means that we take care to use our resources wisely, looking at by-products of seasonal activities as materials that could be transformed into useful, beautiful everyday products. As we develop the farm we will slowly work to expand our shop products to reflect all parts of our farm enterprise. From our farm to you we hope you enjoy using the wonderful materials and products we create.

Welcome to La Piccolina Farm!

Here you will find materials and finished goods from our family farm located just outside Garzón, Uruguay, in South America. We practice permaculture principals on our farm and work hard to maximize the health of the land, our animals, and our orchards. We run flocks of naturally colored Criolla, white Romney Marsh, and Polwarth cross sheep, as well as a heard of Normandy cattle. Our orchards consist of a large Olive orchard, a small, young, Pecan orchard, and an even smaller and younger Cider apple orchard. All products are produced on our farm from materials either grown or raised on our farm.

Thank you for visiting our online shop and we hope you enjoy a little piece of our farm.

Shipping
We ship worldwide and we offer regular priority mail. Whenever possible we combine shipping to offer the most cost effective shipping option possible. Due to the rural location of our farm and the absence of rural mail service we ship packages one or two times a week from Rocha, the nearest large town in the county. Should farm business necessitate a trip to town on additional days we will gladly ship any packages awaiting the post during such trips. Please be patient when waiting to receive your package, all packages ship from rural Uruguay in South America.

REGULAR MAIL: We ship through the local postal service here in Uruguay, Correo Uruguayo, and its counterparts worldwide (USPS, Royal Mail, La Poste, Australia Post, Canada Post and so on). Packages usually arrive in 15 business days to most destinations but in some cases it might take up to 30 business days.

Priority mail, which includes an International tracking number and signature required, is available upon request. Additional shipping charges will apply. Please PM me and I will be happy to set up a custom listing with the appropriate shipping charges.

We will always send items to your Etsy address unless specified otherwise.

We pack our items with the utmost care to ensure that our farm products reach you in excellent condition. To facilitate shipping every effort is made to reduce packaging volume where possible; fluffy items will readily expand back to original size at destination once materials are unpacked. If you would prefer items to be mailed in their original, fluffy volume, please be aware that in some cases additional shipping charges may apply if the package incurs oversize charges due to volume.

A note about Duty and Taxes:

In some countries, buyers are subjected to customs taxes and duties on items shipped from international locations. We are in no way responsible for these taxes and duties, being them the complete and sole responsibility of you the buyer.
Additional policies and FAQs
Weight of Goods: Our farm is only 10km from the coast - we have a very humid climate nearly year round - typically about 80% humidity. Wool is very absorbent and weighs more in a humid climate than in an arid climate. To help offset this 1/2 ounce (14 grams) overage is added to every package of washed or flicked fiber. Depending on your climate your purchase of wool - washed, flick-carded, or spun - may have a different weight than on your scale than ours. We try our best but some variance is inevitable. Thank you for your understanding!

Please feel free to contact us for further information about any of the farm products we have listed. We would be happy to provide additional information or background you might be interested in. We would love to create a custom listing for you tailored to your needs.
