About

LaughLand specialises in making weighted blankets and drawstring bags

I have sewn since I was a child. For many years I have made and sold children's items through kindergartens, at handmade markets and later through etsy.

About two years ago I made my first weighted blanket at the request of a customer who could not find a suitable, reasonably priced weighted blanket in Australia for her autistic son. Although I knew many people with autism, having worked for several years as a disability support person, I was not familiar with weighted blankets. I researched what they were and figured out how to make them so that they are functional and attractive.

My first weighted blanket was a hit - with the customer, but also with my own teenage daughter who had always had difficulty falling asleep and staying asleep. I have discovered that weight feels relaxing, comforting and soothing to many people. Although weighted products are better known and more widely used by people who have autism, sensory processing disorder and other disabilities, weight can also ease the symptoms of restless legs, anxiety, PTSD and sleeplessness. Some customers can't identify a reason; they just like the feel of weight.

I strive to offer a service, not just to sell stuff. I can customise a weighted blanket or lap pad so that the weight, size and fabric are what suits you best.

I make all of the items in the LaughLand shop. I design, cut out and sew everything. I package items, answer emails and list items in the shop. Sometimes my Mum helps me with ironing and standing in line at fabric stores.

Frequently asked questions

Which shipping services do you use?

I use either regular parcel post, prepaid satchels or courier, whichever is cheaper. I don't add any packing or handling charge and I am very happy to post items together to lower the cost. I refund overpaid postage.

My standard shipping charges for delivery within Australia do not usually include tracking. The express post option includes tracking.

I use Australia Post for international deliveries. This mail service is reliable and usually quite speedy. Unfortunately, it is quite expensive for bulky items and it isn't always cheaper to post several items together. It is not possible to provide a tracking number (which I believe is standard in the US).

What other payment methods do you offer?

I accept payment by direct deposit to my bank account from Australian customers only. Please contact me for my bank account details.

If you live in the Brisbane area, you are welcome to pick up in person from my home and pay me then. In this case, you don't have to pay postage. Please contact me about this.
