Announcement    COVID-19 Update! I am shipping out orders, following all UK Government safety advice. Parcels are posted in the post box, so the process has a no-contact drop off. Thank you for each and every order at this difficult time, it really does make a difference to me!

Hello, I'm Laura Danby a designer, illustrator and maker. I’m a colour lover, pattern obsessor, tea drinker and creative thinker. I create animal and pattern illustrations for a range of unique handmade gifts and acrylic jewellery.

My background is in graphic design and print, I love taking a subject and simplifying it into its basic form and shapes. I'm inspired by the natural world, Scandinavian design and the colours and patterns of the 1950s. My style is flat colour, sharp lines with a retro, nostalgic feel. I try to bring a touch of Scandi and a big pop of colour to every design.

I now split my time between creating my own collection of colourful handmade products and offering a branding design service to fellow independent businesses. I mainly sell online, but around November, December time, you’ll find me at Christmas markets..

As I work independently, being involved in the maker community is really important to me. I am a Brighton Etsy Leader and love to meet up and hang out with local creatives. As part of the team we organise monthly meet ups, workshops, markets, events and support others on the handmade quest.

In my shop you will find a colourful menagerie of birds, foxes, giraffes, tigers, flamingos, dinosaurs, owls, bees, pandas, llamas, ladybirds and geometric patterns. I design and make greeting cards, prints, bags, jewellery, necklaces, brooches, craft sewing kits or wedding invitations.

Screen prints, paper cuts and cups of tea...

A few years ago as a Christmas present, I was given a weekends screen printing course. I did the course and absolutely loved it, I was hooked! Halfway through the weekend someone passing through the studio, saw one of my prints and asked to buy it. It was unfinished, I was surprised but flattered. It gave me a big boost and I think it triggered something in me... I thought ‘Wow! Would people really buy my pictures? Maybe I could do this and sell my prints!’

I studied Graphic Design at Bournemouth and Poole Art College, followed by Kingston University where I developed a love for paper sculpture and hand cut paper cuts. This then lead onto hand cut stencils to screen print from.

Growing up in the New Forest gave me a love of the natural world around me. I developed an addiction to all things Scandi and I felt a style started to emerge in my work. As a designer I do love a sharp line - and this combination really worked for me!

I moved to Brighton and started a small design agency which specialised in branding, print, web design and packaging. In my spare time I discovered a local screen printing studio, printed away merrily and learnt to use their letterpress machines. I loved the clunky machinery, the wooden and metal type, weird and wonderful paper stocks, the smell of the ink and the authentic feel of the prints.

I now do a mixture of making my handmade products and design / illustration commissions. My desk is in the One Girl Band space, in a wonderful old warehouse space in Brighton's North Laines. Its a space for women who work by themselves to connect and have a space to work. I make my pieces here and package all my orders up, drink a lot of tea washed down with the odd biscuit or two!

If you would like to work together on a unique piece or a design / illustration project. Please get in touch on lauradanby [!at] mac.com, I would love to hear from you!

Frequently asked questions
Gift wrapping and packaging

I do offer a gift wrapping service - I hand screenprint my own luxurious black wrapping paper with a metallic geometric pattern, then finish the parcel with a bright colourful ribbon. I can add a person message for you too - just add it in the comments box when you order.

The link to purchase the gift wrapping service is here:-

All necklaces and keyrings come in beautiful black and silver embossed jewellery boxes, they look stunning! Ready to give as a special gift.

Brooches are mounted on a stiff black branded card.

All items are posted in protective packaging so they arrive as pristine as when they were packed!

Care instructions

Jewellery:-
The necklaces, brooches and keyrings are all make from acrylic and cherry wood. They need to follow a few careful instructions to keep them looking sparkly and new.

- They pick up dust and finger prints, so just give the surface a rub down with a soft cloth or t-shirt material works well.

- Keep your jewellery dry! The will withstand a splash if dried quickly afterwards... but definitely don't go swimming!

- To keep the silver chains as shiney as possible return your necklace to its box after wearing it.

- Avoid any lotions and potions directly onto your jewellery.

Bags:-
The bags are cotton and can be washed on a cool temperature.
