Note from shop owner Laura Grisham Designs is closing. I have enjoyed making my glitter shoes for about 4 years now, and it is time for me to do what I love best...painting on canvas. Please feel free to leave me a note if you have an emergency. Until my store "closes" on June 30, I could possibly take your order.

Love that she made and shipped them quickly. They are beautiful! My baby girl loves them (showed it by trying to eat the bow).

This is me holding my very first granddaughter. To say I'm in love is an understatement! There is nothing like holding a newborn baby...especially if it's your grandchild.

About

"Never let anyone take away your sparkle!"

I opened my Etsy shop when someone asked me if I had anything listed on Etsy. To be honest, I had never heard of the site. When I visited, it was like a huge arts/crafts/jewelry bonanza and I knew I had to create my own shop.
When I first opened my store, I sold all kinds of things. I didn't know what to focus on and prayed that God would show me what to do to bring cohesiveness to my shop. My prayer was answered last Christmas (2012)
My husband and I were celebrating my oldest son's birthday at a nice restaraunt. Nick's wife's sister and family joined us. When I asked 3 year old Greer what she wanted from Santa she quickly said, "I want a pair of pink sparkle shoes!" Christian's mouth dropped! She and Randy did not KNOW Greer wanted sparkle shoes! She tried to find them but couldn't. So, I told her I would take care of it. And I did! When Greer opened our package her eyes got huge! She put those shoes on her feet and danced around the room, the glitter sparkling all over due to the Christmas lights on the tree. It was then I realized that something so simple might just sell extremely well! I began mixing my own colors and that's how my little store became what it is today.
As for me personally, I am a retired public school teacher. My license is over-flowing with areas in which I am certified. I have taught Career Orientation, Home Economics, and Art on both the elementary and secondary levels. I studied very hard and passed the Praxis III in Art the first time I took the exam.,even though I don't have a degree in Art!
My love for Art and creating began very early in my life. I wanted to major in Art but looked at what others were creating and felt I just didn't measure up. In other words, I "chickened out." How sad that I wasted all those years that I could have been learning and improving.
My teaching career ended several years ago when I was diagnosed with a then "unknown" systemic autoimmune disorder. The doctors were not sure until recently exactly what was wrong. I was diagnosed with Sjogrens Syndrome
(Show-grins) at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN in 2011. Several months later it was apparent to my Rheumatologist that I had also developed extreme photosensitivity. Sunlight is now something I avoid because it worsens my symptoms and I end up with large, red spots anywhere the sunlight touches my skin. So much for having a tan, but I must admit that many people say I don't look my age! Our trip to Kauai in the Hawaiian Islands in July, 2013 was fun but I DID have to wear special clothing with the SPF built into the fabric. I let my guard down for one day and ended up with sun poisoning which I dealt with for an entire WEEK after returning home!
My creating began with a dog portrait. Then another one. And another. You get the picture. My "Pooch Portraits" gradually improved and I must say that I have a gift for painting dogs. My portraits are colorful and contemporary and I have never had a customer who did not absolutely love their painting.
Painting, sewing, and GLITTERING SHOES etc. takes my mind off my illness and the symptoms that creep up on me. God has blessed me with a creative nature and a love for color and design. I see things so differently than others and could spend hours watching birds or walking through art museums and galleries...always seeing the little things that make things special.
My joy comes from God and what He has done in my life. Despite the fact that He did not CAUSE me to be ill, it has definitely brought me closer to Jesus. I worship through each piece of art I create. And...I've never been happier...or SPARKLIER!
(umm, is that a word?)

Many Blessings,
Laura
