About

Laura Martin Jewelry Designs - Modern Feminine Jewelry Inspired By Nature

My most vivid memories growing up were my families trip’s to Northern Ontario where we would go camping, hiking, swimming, and explore nature. I remember the deep, crystal clear waters in Tobermory, the sound of the gravel road to my grandma’s cottage in Goderich, and numerous song birds singing in the trees while walking the Bruce Trail. I would often sketch our daily journeys while in the long car rides home or at night when I was supposed to be sleeping but was too excited from the day’s events.

Capturing nature in drawing stayed with me and led me to taking Illustration at OCADU. While I loved my courses, Illustration was becoming digitalized and my mind, body and soul searched for a way to create in a more traditional way. I found jewelry making, picked up a few books and never looked back.

In 2012 I took the Jewelry Essentials Program offered through Fleming College at the Haliburton School of the Arts. I was named to the President’s Honour Roll and received the 2012 Jewellery Art’s Award. With the new skills learnt I have worked non-stop creating new modern lines of jewelry and pushing my skills further. I have found the sweet spot, where I can marry my inspiration of the nature around me with the traditional methods of metalsmithing.

Care instructions

Every jewelry piece comes with a care card letting you know how to make your piece last a lifetime.

The best way to keep your jewelry looking brand new is to wear your jewelry on a regular basis. The oils in your skin help to keep your pieces shining bright day after day. That being said, to keep tarnish at bay, a good jewelry polishing cloth is recommended over liquid or cream cleaners. Cleaners, while good at bringing out a shine, can damaged stones and pearls as well as remove intentional patinas and colour treatments.

If you aren’t wearing your jewelry for a while it can be stored in small zip-lock bags which slow down the oxidation of the metals. Pearls should be stored in jewelry boxes lined with tarnish resistant liners.
