5 out of 5 starsGorgeous freshwater pearl and gemstone necklace with beautiful artisan focal piece. This is one of the most beautifully designed necklaces I have ever had, and it is not surprising that such a lovely piece is made by Laurel Moon. I have bought a great many things from Laurel Moon Jewelry over the years and have rated every piece with 5 stars.

Laurel Moon: an odyssey into cultures past and present
As a child, I was fascinated with stories from the past. I loved reading Greek, Norse, and Polynesian myths and folktales. I loved the humanity of the Greek gods, the nobility and tragedy of the Norse gods, and the beautiful spirit of the Polynesian stories.
As I grew older, I sought out Russian and gypsy folktales, Hawaiian and Australian stories, anthologies of the Grimm tales. I read Joseph Campbell's work and was intrigued by the journey of the hero and the underlying structure of myths.
I began creating jewelry in December of 1995, and quickly grew to love it. I took a handful of classes and began selling my work through a salon, and then eventually I bought a tent and started selling at craft shows and art fairs. I also sold my work to the Detroit Institute of Arts for its gift shops.
It's been several years and I'm still creating jewelry. I love finding pendants that strike a chord with me--pieces that evoke that connection to the myth, whether it be Medusa or a spirit lock. The stories of the past inform my work in the present. I hope you'll come along on my journey!

What happens if my package does not arrive?
First Class domestic packages generally take 3-5 days to arrive at their destination. However, keep in mind that the USPS describes the service as taking 2-10 business days (business days do not include holidays or weekends).
First Class International packages generally take 1-2 weeks to arrive at their destination. However, they sometimes can take up to a month to arrive due to Customs delays, etc.
Your best course of action in any situation where a package has not arrived is to contact your local post office first. I do not consider domestic/international packages "lost" until at least a month has passed.
Please contact me if your package is lost and I will do what I can to rectify the situation.
Custom and personalized orders
If you like an item and would like a custom length/style, please click the "request custom order" button on the listing; I will respond (generally within 24 hours) with possibilities and pricing (unless I am out of town and cannot create custom items). Please allow a few extra days for shipping custom items.
Care instructions
I construct my jewelry with quality materials and techniques. I would advise against getting jewelry wet if possible. An occasional splash is not going to be an issue but immersion during showering, swimming, etc., should be avoided.
Some of my materials can oxidize/tarnish. This is a natural process. If you don't care for the look, you can clean the jewelry with a gentle cleaner or polish (follow the manufacturer's directions). The best way to avoid tarnish is to avoid humidity. While not wearing jewelry, seal it in a Ziploc-style plastic bag.
I would love a piece for my young child, do you create jewelry for children?
I'm sorry, at this time I do not create any jewelry for children. There are separate laws and testing processes for children's jewelry, so I limit my designing to those above the age of 13.
Will your jewelry tarnish?
The short answer is...yes, with time and moisture, all silver/copper/brass will tarnish.
The longer answer: Copper and brass will oxidize (the outer layer will get darker) when exposed to moisture. Fine silver oxidizes slowly, but sterling silver will oxidize faster because it contains copper.
I use copper, brass, and sterling in many of my designs. Some of these elements are already darkened (antiqued) but some of them are shiny.
You can cut down on the rate of tarnishing by keeping the jewelry in plastic bags when you're not wearing it, and using anti-tarnish strips.
Avoid wearing jewelry in the pool, the shower, the rain, at the beach, etc.
You can use a silver polishing cloth to restore some of the shine if you wish.
Sizing details
For bracelets, I provide two measurements - the actual physical length of the bracelet, and what I call the "fit size."
Bracelets that are the same physical length can have different fit sizes. Larger beads, flat focal points, etc., all will impact the fit size.
In general, the "fit size" is your wrist size. If you don't know your wrist size, either use a tape measure to measure your wrist (but not super snugly, just a light loop around your wrist), or use a piece of string and then check it against a ruler.
I can adjust the sizing of most of my bracelets. You can contact me first and send me a link to the bracelet you're interested with the sizing you require and I'll let you know.
