About

Raised in Arkansas. Distilled in Oregon.

Laurs Kemp hails from the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas, where she wiled away the hot summers watching old movies and sketching dresses inspired by those movies.

She received a bachelor's degree in fashion merchandising and tried her hand at corporate design, but it lacked the frenzied inspiration and impassioned handcrafting that she gravitated toward (and it just sucked). Using vintage materials almost exclusively, she produced small one-off collections for runway shows in Little Rock and sold those pieces online.

In 2012, she made the move to Portland, OR to seek out like-minded artists, independent movie-houses, and vegan cuisine. She currently designs a small women's line with a curated melange of inspiration.

In June 2015, she became the designer-in-residence for the West End location of Backtalk. She designs, makes and sells garments out of her studio space in the back of the shop.

For her 2015 capsule collection, titled Your Motions Says, she drew inspiration from the music of Arthur Russell, late 1970s loungewear, Japanese minimalism a la early 1980s Comme des Garcons and Yohji Yamamoto, and films of that period - like Girlfriends (1978). Try to decipher which film will inspire her next by following her on mubi. She loves movie recommendations, too. Hint, hint!

Hi, I'm Laurs Kemp. I'm the designer of a small women's clothing line. I hail from Portland, OR, by way of Arkansas. I'm inspired by foreign films, nature, and different things from one day to the next. You can follow me on Pinterest or Instagram, @laurskemp. I also sell my curated vintage wares at moonfossil.etsy.com.

Accepted payment methods

  • Accepts Etsy gift cards
Payment
I accept Paypal, credit cards and Etsy gift certificates. If you wish to reserve an item for a day or two, please convo me. Otherwise, payment must be made immediately upon purchase. There's no sales tax in Oregon, so you will not be charged sales tax. I've been known to ship an order within 30 minutes of purchase, so ask me any questions or give me any special instructions BEFORE you purchase!
Shipping
I make most of my items to order, so I usually ship domestic orders through USPS First-Class or Priority within 2-3 weeks of purchase. If pieces are already made, then they usually go out 1-3 days of purchase. They usually arrive within 1-5 business days of shipping.

Let me know if you'll be purchasing multiple items and I'll work up the adjusted shipping price for you. I usually ship orders in a secure large envelope with additional packing materials if necessary.

I am not responsible for damage or loss through the US mail (but I will do my best to accommodate you in that event). If you would like a tracking number, delivery confirmation, or insurance, let me know BEFORE you place the order so I can add the appropriate amount to the total.

I ship international orders through USPS First-Class International and depending on Customs they usually arrive within 2 weeks of the shipping date. Since international shipping charges vary from country to country, the number that I've provided is my best estimate. In the event that more money is required, I will contact you for payment instructions before it can be shipped. If I've overestimated the shipping, then I will refund through Etsy.

Some countries charge extra fees for taxes, etc. upon delivery that are unforeseeable by me and the buyer is responsible for paying or I believe the package will get sent back to me. I apologize for this inconvenience, but unfortunately I have no control over this. Check out https://www.etsy.com/ca/help/article/5023?ref=help_search_result (and www.hmrc.gov.uk/customs/post/internet.htm if you live in the UK).

If you live in the Portland, OR area and would like to pick up your purchase rather than pay for shipping, please convo me BEFORE purchase and we'll make arrangements.
Refunds and Exchanges
Since I'm an independent designer who makes each item to order by hand, all sales are final. If it's found that the reason for the return is my failure to measure or note the condition of the item accurately, then I will pay for the return shipping and either store credit or a refund will be issued. Refunds are be subject to a restocking fee of 10%. Contact me BEFORE purchase if you have any specific questions or concerns about sizing or condition issues, or if you want a close-up shot of anything. Also, I can purchase shipping insurance for you, if you convo me beforehand. And check those measurements!
Additional policies and FAQs
Please convo with me if you have any questions or comments. Oregon has no sales tax, so you will not be charged any sales tax on your purchases. If you are interested in a custom order, please contact me and we'll figure out if this can be arranged. If you would like to sell any of my items wholesale, please let me know.
