Lauren Winter is a small clothing design studio based in the USA.
We believe in quality. In a world where disposable clothing is the norm, we strive to create heirloom-quality pieces that can be passed on to the next generation. We sew with durable, natural fibers like hemp, certified organic cotton, silk, and linen that soften with wear while still retaining their shape and structure. Each garment is sewn in-house by a team of talented makers in our Portland, Oregon studio.
We believe that comfort can be interesting. Every design is inspired by origami and the versatile nature of shapes and folds. Put a square cut of cloth on a body and watch it transform. There are no buttons, zippers, or snaps - only ties, wraps, and elastic. Our breathable materials and geometric designs adapt to the wearer because we believe in clothing conforming to the body, not the other way around.
We believe in responsibility - to our community and our planet. Sustainability is our focus. Recently we made the switch from polyester thread to 100% organic cotton thread. We use fiber reactive dyes because they have a low environmental impact, use less water than natural dyes, and don't require harsh chemicals to fix color. Our packaging supplies are made with 100% recycled materials. Our team members are paid a living wage, and our suppliers engage in free and fair trade practices.
Hemp is the most resilient natural fiber on the market and it's one of our favorites to work with. It's a fast growing plant that doesn't require pesticides or herbicides to grow, and it produces over twice the amount of fiber than cotton or flax on the same amount of land. Fibers like wool, organic cotton, tencel, and linen are woven from renewable resources and are fully biodegradable.
We believe in individuality. We feel clothing should reflect the individuality in every wearer. There are 100 or less of each design we produce in the world - on a planet of over 7 billion people, the odds are that your Lauren Winter piece will be unique and rare.
