Art & Humor = Happiness
"The cure for boredom is curiosity. But there is no cure for curiosity." Lauretta has certainly lived this quote. She can say that she has never been bored because her curiosity has ridden over most all her other needs and emotions growing up. She drove her parents crazy with the "What's that? Where are we going? How was this made? Why do we do it this way?" questions; having to be quieted with the typical parental answer of, "Because."
Lauretta Lowell is an award winning mixed media/assemblage artist from Palm
Desert, CA who sells her work in fine art festivals and galleries. Her whimsical
assemblages are in art collections in many countries. Articles on her work, and her
journey to becoming an artist, have been published in several major magazines
over the past six years. You can find her working hard creating and teaching in
her studio in La Quinta, CA.
"My art isn't planned in advance; I just let it happen. The story just seems to
write itself when I wander around my workshop picking up this and that,
combining treasures to see if they talk to me or spark some sort of electrical
current through my veins. Using found vintage objects; I hope to offer you an
interesting and fulfilling moment that captures your curiosity and makes you
smile, creating an experience for you that you have never felt before."
After sustaining a serious head injury in a small plane crash in the late 1980s, a brain tumor developed in 2002 causing Lauretta to have several small strokes. She took five challenging years to recover and regain her bearings. Although she lost her aptitude to continue the career she had once known as a corporate marketing executive, she found herself increasingly drawn to art, both as a way of regaining her health and as a means of expressing herself. She feels blessed to have recovered with such a gift and a passion.
Her life no longer proceeds at a stressful pace and she is happy. She is also very proud of her curiosity and humor. Curiosity is the very basis of discovery, adventure and education, and if you tell her that curiosity killed the cat, she says the cat died gallantly!
