About

Every bump in life becomes a jewel, and that's how we approach our pottery; perfect in its imperfection.

In 1989, I left the industrial world of commercial printing, bought my house and studio in rural Northern Kentucky, and opened Watson Clay Art. I worked full-time for 18 years, building up my clientele of national wholesale accounts, and exhibiting at some of the most prestigious art fairs in the country. From the beginning, I had decided that I would leave behind the more traditional styles and create innovative and exciting work that is an expression of ME.

I create all the work here at Watson Clay Art, using glazes that I have developed over the many years in my studio. I designed and built my own reduction kiln using "ceramic fiber," which is the same material used on the bottom of the space shuttles years ago.

Five years ago, I found that the chemotherapy and radiation from years ago had effected my heart, and working in pottery full time was a thing of the past. Fortunately, I am still able to work in the studio a few hours a week, though an 8 hour day is more than my body can handle. It also means that you will no longer find me at art fairs.

I have a select list of wholesale galleries that carry my pottery, and I sell here on Etsy. I love the community of Etsy; the positive, joyful attitude that everyone here expresses, the enthusiasm for all things handmade. I love all of you!

Included in my resume is my work as a professor of art at Northern Kentucky University; past president of the Kentucky Guild of Artists & Craftsmen; and recipient of the lifetime achievement award Artist Emeritus from the Kentucky Arts Council. I currently write for the online art critic magazine, AEQAI.com.

I've also created a results and transformation coaching practice, which is the focus of the blog listed to the right. Let me know how I can serve you!

Connecting is one of my core values, so send me a convo and favorite my shop.

Shop policies

Are you a collector? Odds are, you know someone who is. The fact is, I know my work isn't for everyone, but those who love it keep coming back for more! My joy is in adding beauty to everyone's lives. I work too hard to simply make a commodity, a product. My work is an inspiration when I'm making it, and my intention is to make that happen in your home.

My work is food safe, dishwasher safe, and microwave safe, though it is not capable of being used in an oven. When microwaving, make sure the food is not over-heated. If it is over-heated, it might crack the pot.
