Acirema is America spelled backward. But is there a meaning to the name Acirema?

(Before I get to the story behind Acirema, here is the link to sign up for my newsletter page:, and will keep you updated on any coupon codes available, events and new products for lcofacirema!)

Well, I'm almost done writing this story, and I will post it when I'm finished. But I'll give you a is based on the idea presented by the anthropologist Horace Miner in his famous essay "Body Ritual among the Nacirema". Do you have an idea of the connection?

Right now, I am a stay-at-home mom with two rambunctious boys, ages 8 and 5. I create most of our family's body products. Everything from the baby shampoo I've used on the boys since infancy to Quiescence Linen Spray, which we spray on EVERYTHING in our house that has any kind of "off" odor to nighttime monsters. What this means is that every single product I sell has been tested time and time again on my own family. If it doesn't work on them, I don't sell it to you!

But while I am a mom creating herbal, all natural product right now, it hasn't always been this way. I graduated from Kansas State University with a B.A. in Cultural Anthropology in 1998. In college, I had given speeches in my advanced Spanish class about essential oils, so I knew I had some interest in alternative healing methods. (Couldn't give that speech in Spanish again for a million dollars!)

After college, I moved to Denver, CO. In 1999, I enrolled in The Rocky Mountain Center for Botanical Studies in Boulder, CO. I completed over 1300 hours, ranging from Herbal Materia Medica, local herb walks, Anatomy and Physiology, to a clinical internship program. I started seeing my own clients in 2003. While I would write up a detailed recommendation sheet for them, including diet, lifestyle and herbal recommendations, their favorite part was almost always the specialized body or medicinal product that I custom created for them! And combined with my intense interest in essential oils, voila! My product making had begun.

So with my background in herbal healing, I became very, very particular about each and every ingredient I put in a product. If I was aware that eating fake food was harmful, how in the world could I think that a fake ingredient in a body product was healing? I couldn't, and neither should you. I want you and my own family to have the very best healing ingredients, so that is what I use. I hope you enjoy!

For damaged, defective or unusable items, please contact me immediately through an Etsy convo. I will always provide my customers with full value for money spent; whether that is a coupon code, or if the product is completely unusable, a full product replacement. I try and pack everything with meticulous care and have had very few incidents in all the years I have been shipping, but things do happen. If I am notified of the problem, I will do everything to make it right:) And I am always appreciative when customers take the time to let me know if anything has happened to their product.

Also, please contact me for tracking information. If your package has not arrived on time, first check to make sure you have supplied the correct address to Etsy. I know it sounds so simple, but it actually is quite common for people to not update their address on Etsy. Next, we will follow procedure already determined by USPS.

And let's say you didn't care for the scent of the product, or you just don't like it. Let's get you something else! Buyer is responsible for shipping the product back to me and also letting me know why they didn't like the product. I will then comp the amount you spent on the original product on your next order. I work very hard to keep smaller sized product available for customers to purchase to find out if they like the product without having to spend a lot of money. I recommend first purchasing the smaller sized product, and then if you like it, purchasing the larger size.

Any completely unopened package returned to me, to get a refund, must be 1) undamaged and resellable, 2) will be charged a 20% restocking fee and 3) must be returned within 2.5 months of the original sale and 4) will of course be minus the amount spent on shipping, any additional charges for me to retrieve the product, the amount paypal charged me for the sale if paypal was used and the 3.5% + $0.20 charged by Etsy for each sale.

If you would like a refund BEFORE you have sent me your filled out paperwork and questionnaire, I offer a full refund minus 15% of the pre-tax price you paid. You must also request a refund within 60 days of purchasing your Herbal consultation. For everything else, see the policy listed below. This is only to cover expenses I am charged from your purchase.

If you would like a refund AFTER you have sent me all of your filled out paperwork and questionnaires, AND you have not missed your appointment, I offer a full 50% refund. This is only because I spend several hours researching your case once I receive your paperwork. If you received products as part of an appointment package, those will be deducted from the 50% of your refund.

If you would like a refund AFTER you have sent me all of your filled-out paperwork and questionnaires, AND you have missed your appointment, I offer a one-time reschedule of your appointment at no charge. For all other appointments missed, there will be no refunds made available, and you will be charged for your missed appointment. This is to cover the time I have set aside for you, and for payment of my consultation room.
Thank you for your understanding.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any additional questions or comments!
I accept credit cards and paypal.
Domestic shipping in the US: All domestic shipping is "Priority" through USPS. Priority has many beneficial qualities, including allowing your package to arrive earlier than First Class Mail, and it also provides tracking. All domestic orders ship for a FLAT FEE of $7.00. Order as much as you want, and STILL only pay one flat fee:) I'm not in this to make money off of shipping. I create top quality, completely handcrafted herbal products and that is what you are paying for. Beautiful, sensual, herbalicious product!

I ship all orders within 1-7 days of receiving your order, and Priority mail provides 2-3 day service, (though not guaranteed) to most domestic destinations.

International shipping: All international packages under 4 lbs are shipped out through First Class Mail USPS. While First Class takes longer than Priority, it can save $10 or more per order on international shipping. Of course, if you are ordering internationally, and would like to request international Priority, just convo and let me know before you order and I will set up a specific page. Easy peasy! All international purchases weighing above 4 lbs and less than 70 lbs are shipped out Priority Mail USPS. Also, very important, buyer is responsible for ALL taxes, customs and processing fees that may incur or apply to allow buyer to retrieve/pick-up their package. I request that you contact your customs office and ask about import regulations and restrictions before placing your order. It is important for you to become familiar with Customs policies for your specific country before ordering. Customs regulations differ by country and not knowing their regulations can result in your order incurring high import duties, the delivery being delayed or even returned. Please check with your Customs office to see if your country permits the shipment of the products you are planning to order from me and if any additional licenses or permits are needed. In addition, all International orders must have an actual address to ship to - no PO boxes.

***For international shipping, I refund any overages that are $3.00 above the quoted shipping price.

International First Class shipping time is also dependent on the destination.

If you need any other options, or have any suggestions, please let me know!

Q: Why is the print on your labels so small? I can't read it.

A: The answer is two-fold. First, there are requirements by law as to the information that is required on each bottle of product. I have to make sure I get all the information on each and every bottle. But that leads me to the second part; I also have a strong commitment to creating green products, and not creating large unnecessary packaging you find all too often in the big box stores. So technically, I could add a "booklet" of instructions and ingredients to each product that would be easier to read. But as I know my green-earth savvy customers would agree - let's save paper! And read the instructions and details on my Etsy, where all is provided. I try and send only the absolute necessary information on extra paper, such as my Herbal Skin Care Kit 101, and a couple of others. Otherwise, all the hard read print on labels is duplicated on my Etsy site for easy perusing. I hope that helps! And feel free to let me know if you have any other questions about my products!

Q: Hi Lori! I have been using natural/organic skincare for the last several years. This last year I tried several brands with mediocre results. My skin is changing as I age and is getting drier (I have always had oily skin). I have dry patches on my cheeks/jowls that does not seem to go away. Others don't notice, but I do. The last cleansing routine I tried made my face even drier. My jawline and forehead were now dry.

So I saw someone recommend your products and purchased your trial pack. I started using it Thursday evening (9/25). That night I could already feel a difference in my skin. Yay!!! I have been washing my face with your products twice a day since then. I also drank all the tea. My skin looks better already but I still have the dry patches on my cheeks. Do you think this will just take time or could the toner be drying my skin out? Really want to get my skin smooth and supple again.
Thanks again!

A: Thanks for writing in your question! First, congratulations on using natural products, as that is the biggest step for so many people.

Also, I'm glad you saw a difference in using my products, even only after 4-5 days! I would however, give my products a little more time to see the benefit in your skin. Letting your skin microbiome adjust after using soap or basically anything but oil, can take a little time. Of course, the time it takes being dependent on each person, just as each person healing from a cut will take different amounts of time. And as an aside, I did create this skincare line because I too, suffered from dry skin!

Toner has typically been associated as "drying", but that is because toner usually contains alcohol. My toner does not contain alcohol, and should not contribute to drying of the skin. My toners ingredients are also a time-honored remedy for sunburn, I have used it many times for such, and has only helped with the dried out skin from sunburn. I have also seen my toner help incredibly with dry facial skin. That being said, every single person is different, lol! The toner may contain something that you are sensitive to. I would suggest, if you continue to have the dry skin after 2-3 weeks, stop using the toner for 1-2 weeks, see if the dry skin improves, and then start using the toner again to see if the dry skin re-emerges. It is my personal preference to try a hypothesis more than one way to ensure coincidence had nothing to do with it. You may not be so inclined.

Changing to more appropriate skincare is usually enough for most people to see benefits. However, those that don't improve, or improve enough, have now been exposed to the truth of what the large cosmeceutical companies don't want people to know. That a large portion of skin problems will never resolve solely from topical treatments. Chris Kresser, one of the leading Paleo practitioners, has a quote that says something akin to this, "skin symptoms are always accompanied with gut issues". Meaning that the problem started in the gut, and as detox pathway impairment and hormone dysregulation continued, it eventually showed up as skin issues. My tea, Skin Restorative Infusion, is a great place to start as it will help with vitamin and mineral repletion, gut healing and liver support. I do recommend for optimal results, to drink 1 quart of this tea for 4 months. Working with a qualified practitioner who understands the gut/skin connection will also be helpful, if you are not seeing results. I see clients myself, phone and Skype, but there are many out there you could contact. I don't know how bad your dry skin is, but if it is mild, I strongly suspect it will clear without having to take these other steps.

One last thing, as a practitioner, I always tell people, if I could only tell you one supplement to take to improve your skin (and just about every other organ system), it would be cod-liver oil. My favorite brands are Green Pastures, Nordic Naturals and Carlsons. It is a highly nutritive and lubricating oil with Vit A and D and others that are specific for dry skin.
Hope this helps! And please let me know if you have any other questions, or if anything else comes up!
