About

From a one off Leadlight

From a one off leadlight to a thriving multi-generational working and teaching studio, Leadlight by Ettore is truly a story of success.

When Ettore left the banking world to be an Artist and House Husband in the mid 1980's no one would have guessed that 25 years later he would not only still be working in glass but so would his daughter. They now run 5 classes a week in leadlighting, glass fusing and slumping, mosaic's, and copper foiling as well as framing, in conjunction with weekend workshops and holiday kid's classes. They also repair and design and create lead-light installations and windows that are installed in churches, synagogues, businesses and private homes around the world.

Somehow they also find the time to make both their wholesale range of home-wares as well as their one off curios, home-wares and sculptures which sell in galleries and markets around Australia. Two years ago LBE partnered up with another local business Feel The Burn to turn their popular bottle bowls into stunning candles.

Ettore became aware of the struggles of young aspiring artists in his local area about 10 years ago and decided to start a scholarship fund in which he now raises between $4-5,000 annually under the name of Working Outside the Square. The idea behind the annual exhibition to is remind experienced artists the struggle of starting out by making them work in unfamiliar mediums or with unique canvasses. The exhibition features 50 influential artists from around Macedon Ranges, his local area, and then the pieces are auctioned off with all proceeds funding between 1 and 5 scholarships to school leavers to assist them with the additional costs of attaining a arts qualification when you live in a rural region. Some of the themes have been skateboards, shoe lasts, glass and body casts.

LBE Etsy store is a place for our smaller custom glass works but we are always more than happy to work with you to create a custom piece so please feel free to get in touch!
