Announcement   Welcome to our shop! Legacy PotteryWorks is a youth employment program in Wichita, Kansas. We are a team of five (two adult staff members and three youth workers) working to make pottery and explore creativity together. Most of our workers have never had a job before and have little to no experience in ceramics. They are taught many basic job skills through their training in making our high-quality pottery. The youth workers exit our program with all of the basics: resume, reference letter, and all of the proper identification needed to move into the workforce. As a bonus, they are extremely edified by making a product that is in homes across the nation. None of this could be done without YOU: our wonderful customers!

About

Legacy PotteryWorks

Currently, we are a team of five: staff members Kristin Wade and Kiana Broadley plus our youth workers Trinity, Dani, and Aden. We work out of our small basement studio in Wichita, Kansas. We create a variety of pottery and ceramic pieces, both hand-thrown and cast. All of our glazes are lead-free and food safe. We love to do wedding registries! If you want to register for our pottery send us a note and we’ll be glad to work with you.

Legacy PotteryWorks was born from a desire to respond to God’s call and to use our pottery skills to employ at-risk youth in the Wichita area. We envision that PotteryWorks will help youth with interests in art and/or business to develop greater confidence and self-efficacy, which can help them discover their own sense of vocation and purpose in the world. Currently we have two youth employees, but we would love to offer more jobs as we grow. Your support helps us provide our youth with quality job experience; we help them develop pottery skills and appropriate work place behavior, both of which are transferable to other job experiences.

PotteryWorks is a new branch of Legacy Ministries, which already employs at-risk youth to work in urban gardens. Legacy Ministries' vision is to see Christ transform lives through creativity and community. We focus on at-risk youth and share God’s love through creative adventures such as art and music day camps during the summer, community outreach in an under-served neighborhood in Wichita, and our two youth employment programs centered on gardening and ceramics.

Frequently asked questions
Is your pottery microwave and/or dishwasher safe?

Yes! All of our glazes are food safe (and lead-free). All of our pottery is microwave, dishwasher and oven safe.

Who makes this pottery?

Our staff and youth employees work together to make all of the pottery. Our youth workers learn to pour and sand greenware, and to glaze bisqueware. The mug or dinnerware set you buy was likely made by one of our at-risk teens! At this time, only our staff members produce hand thrown pieces.
