About

Former psychologist now wields jewelry torch

Once upon a time I wanted a career in academia. I pursued my Ph.D. in clinical psychology, enamored with research and the investigative process. I was going to spend my life neck deep in science! And then, as time went on, I found myself spending less time in the lab and more time in a jewelry studio.

I've always been a maker of jewelry- and I mean always. From the time I was a kid and stole my dad's needle nose pliers to make seed bead earrings for all my friends, to the time I converted my high school enameling class to a jewelry production studio, to the times I stole away from grant writing in graduate school to learn how to fuse fine silver. Finally I copped to it- jewelry is my passion, and I might as well follow it.

Farewell academia! Now I'm a full time jeweler. With a Ph.D.

And two amazing, mischievous, gorgeous kids. They've played an important role in how I run my business, in that they are the inspiration for the eco-friendly bent to my line. When the kids were born, my husband and I started giving serious thought to how we wanted to live our lives as a family. We started paying attention to the food we were eating, and the products we were using to clean. When I began to work in metal, I knew I wanted to avoid using environmentally harmful products as much as I could. I also knew I wanted to use recycled metal as much as I could- I felt like I had this greater responsibility to the planet that my kids were going to be living on.

And so lemonade handmade jewelry was born. Truthfully, for the most part I design pieces that I would want to wear myself. I love to mix metals and play with the textures and tones that metal can take on, and I like to continually learn new techniques because I feel that that pushes me to look at my existing designs with fresh eyes and take them in new directions.

My goal is to make pieces that you will want to wear every day because they just make you feel that much more beautiful. I hope you enjoy them.

Additional policies and FAQs
FAQs

1) is the item in the picture the actual item I will be receiving?

The pictures are representative of the piece(s) you are purchasing. I make every effort to make the individual pieces as similar as possible to the item pictured, but because of the handmade nature of the jewelry, your piece will have some small variation that makes it unique.

2) what materials are used in lemonade handmade jewelry?

I use fine silver, sterling silver, solid 14K gold and 14K gold fill. Gold fill is made when a layer of gold is fused to a core of base metal. The gold in gold fill is 50 to 100,000 times thicker than regular gold plating, and it is at least 1/20 of the total metal weight.

3) Is your gold fill recycled?

Unfortunately, no. I am continually on the search for suppliers that offer affordable recycled gold fill stock, but have not found any as of yet. However, all of the designs featuring gold fill can also be made in solid gold (which is recycled)- just ask!

4) how do I care for my lemonade handmade jewelry?

I have a dear friend for whom I made a pair of very delicate amethyst briolette and gold wire wrap earrings some years ago. I recently learned she has worn them all day, every day for two years- she has slept in them, showered in them, and she even delivered her twin girls wearing them! They have survived remarkably intact, but PLEASE NOTE: this is NOT the recommended care for lemonade handmade jewelry :) I would recommend taking jewelry off when showering, swimming or sleeping. If at all possible, keep your jewelry in an airtight container (a Ziploc bag works great!) as this will deter tarnishing. If you find your silver jewelry is tarnishing, you can use a jewelry polishing cloth. For silver pieces with a brushed finish, I will enclose an abrasive pad that you can use to maintain the matte appearance. If you notice that your gold fill jewelry is looking dull, please polish gently with a soft cloth. Polishing cloths may be used, but they contain abrasives so they should be used sparingly and VERY gently with gold fill jewelry. Please don't use a polishing cloth on oxidized silver pieces or on gemstones as the finish will be adversely affected.

5) do you do custom orders?

YES! I love to do custom work. Contact me and we can discuss creating something wonderful just for you.

6) do you accept wholesale orders?

I do- if you are interested in including lemonade handmade jewelry in your boutique or gallery, please contact me for a price sheet.
