Preservation and Art are important to me. I believe my creations reflect both.
I started my shop because I have this passion to excite peoples lives with handmade items. There is something about a one-of-a-kind handmade item that makes people smile. It's that overwhelming feeling that it's something special for someone special. That smile drives me to continue to create and push my imagination beyond its limits.
I am so fortunate that I was given the experience to experiment with art at a young age. The very first Christmas presents I ever gave were to my parents, my sister and my brother. They are feather, glitter and pompom collages made on styrofoam meat tray with wire on the back so they could hang them. I must have been 6 years old. I started to learn to sew at 7 and progressed to knitting around 9 where I made blankets for each of my American Girl dolls, which they are still wrapped in to this day.
In high school I became one of the top students in my photography class winning scholastic awards that paved the way to being enrolled in one of the best art colleges in the Washington, DC area, Corcoran College of Art+Design. There I was exposed to sculpture, drawing, painting and majoring in fine art photography. I learned book binding and textiles that I have reworked into LeslieGallery creations.
Through the products I am able to express my creativity while combining art, convenience and preservation. I hope that the people purchasing and receiving my creations get that BIG smile on their face each time they open it up.
