We are sisters. We are family. Yes, with all the wonderful and whacky things that come with that statement. Over the years we've had some crazy adventures but not many could compete with 2011 when we sold our homes on the warm and sunny West Coast and moved to a very small town in Ohio. We're talking teeny, tiny here. We're not entirely sure, but there may be more cows than people. If you've ever seen the TV show 'The Middle' then you've seen the essence of our town.

If you're wondering WHY we did this, (we wonder too), here you go. One of the biggest reasons is that we wanted to be able to provide more support to our 80 year old parents, especially our father who was starting to tip over at random times. Now it doesn't take a genius to realize that tipping over at 80 is not a good thing. So being the big thinkers we are, we pondered about potential new jobs that would provide much more flexibility in this new rural environment allowing time for family care.

We didn't figure out this dilemma right away and it never occurred to us to start something together. On background, one of us was a fine arts major in college, owns a ton of art supplies but was now working in an office job; while the other, involved in more non-creative corporate jobs for many years owned art supplies consisting of wipe off markers. So imagine the shock of the artistic sister when the business sister announced she was going home "to color". Laughter ensued as you can imagine.

But from this a first picture was born and almost by spontaneous combustion our business took flight. We both started to "color" which led to more and more coloring and our fascination with mixed media techniques continued. We love to experiment with various mediums and enjoy the texture of the papers, the feel of good acrylic paint, the mess of the sprays and the wackiness of using found items to embellish many pieces.

One of our big surprises is that most pieces seem to make themselves. We start with an idea in mind but somehow the art takes on a life of its own. We build the art in layers and use a variety of techniques. Each piece is designed to evoke memories and just like looking at clouds or interpreting a dream, everyone’s experience is unique ~ the more you look, the more you see.

We often use quotes in our work which either make you stop and think or just make you laugh. A lot of work is done very late at night so being sleep deprived we tend to find everything funny. One of our favorite testimonials came from a shrink who saw our work at an art show in Granville, OH. He described our work as cerebral and witty. It was a delightful affirmation and we told him that we needed to write that down real quick before we went blonde and forgot what we said.

If nothing else, we try to make art that is happy and we hope it brings a smile to your face. Or gives you something to throw a pie at. We're cool with that.
