How I went from being a corporate tax consultant to shop owner on Etsy

At the start of 2012, I found myself at a crossroads. I was pregnant with our fourth child and working part time as a corporate tax consultant. My third child, Zoe, was very sickly and had just been hospitalized with RSV at the tender age of 14-months. The doctors suggested we take Zoe out of daycare so that she could properly recover from all the complications caused be her having reactive airway disease.

There in lies my decision to stay home with my three, and nearly four, children. Yikes! Ha! I always wanted to start a business and felt this was my first real opportunity to do so. I created Lewis Court, LLC in February 2012, only one month after I decided to stay home.

Before Lewis Court, I designed children's art as gifts for nieces, nephews, and friends. My husband suggested I try selling them as a way to "keep myself busy". As if being home with four young kids isn't busy enough. ;-) I am a very determined individual with a high level of creativity so I decided to make a go of it. I found myself with sales my very first week on Etsy. I was immediately inspired to continue down the Etsy path and have LOVED every minute of it!

Every order I receive brings new opportunity to design something truly special for a child. I am 1000% dedicated to creating pieces that wow my customers and bring absolute happiness to their children. I am passionate about my customers and their children. Being a mom myself, I understand wanting to create a space for your child that inspires them to grow creatively, feel comfortable, and most importantly, safe.

I hope I have inspired you through my examples in my shop, as well as my back story, to work with me one-on-one to design a truly unique and special piece for your child. Please feel free to contact me any time to discuss your ideas. I have a lot of fun with the custom design process and welcome any challenge. No piece is ever rushed and nothing ships until you are 100% happy, and in love, with your piece.

Welcome to Lewis Court! I am a shop dedicated to designing 100% custom personalized décor for children. I begin every piece digitally and hand make every embellishment that goes onto your letters. I am able to design around any theme and color scheme. I LOVE challenges so please feel free to request anything.

I offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee on all orders! I am happy to provide a full refund in the even I am unable to produce a proof that meets your expectation. I have never had this happen but am more than happy to oblige in the event it occurs.

In the event an item is damaged during shipment, a new piece will be deigned and shipped to you in its place free of charge. I provide shipping insurance on all framed pieces.
Payment
Payment is due upfront in order to secure a spot on my calendar. I am able to accommodate up to eight orders per week and I typically fill up six weeks in advance.
Shipping
I ship all pieces ONLY after I receive approval from you. A proof is sent once your design is finished so you can approve or request changes. Nothing ships until you are 100% in love with your piece.

I ship through the US Postal Service using their 1-3 day priority service for all hanging letters. Framed pieces are shipped using 2-7 day parcel select.

I am happy to ship anywhere in the world. I often ship overseas and enjoy working with customers across the globe.
