5 out of 5 starsZee created this beautiful woodland/theatre themed journal for me on commission, as I’m an opera singer/ theatre goer who loves spending time in nature. It is such a wonderfully eclectic and carefully curated piece, that I have no idea where to begin to review it. It's the easiest five stars ever. I love to collect things that are one of a kind on this earth and I can guarantee that if you order one of Zee's journals you'll receive something so thoughtfully unique that if you're me, you'll be practically in tears looking at it. The hand sewing on the binding, the recycled materials, the clever juxtaposition of items, every tiny detail, it's more than just a journal, it's a piece of art just for you. Absolutely worth it. I'll treasure it forever!

5 out of 5 starsI don't even know where to begin... this journal is AMAZING. Just INCREDIBLE!!! It's everything I'd hoped it would be and more!! I had asked for a custom journal based around adventure and travel, but later specified I'd planned to use it as a travel journal for our recent trip to London. Zee did not disappoint! She slipped in so many amazing pieces related to London and the United Kingdom and Europe in general, it was just ... well, I was speechless going through it. Every page was an adventure in and of itself, before I even added anything to it! It was so beautiful and so perfect I actually got a bit misty eyed looking through it! Just brilliant. Can't say enough good things about it! You have to see one for yourself to believe it... so order yours now! :D

For the love of making
I'm Zee, a mixed media book artist and author/illustrator. I live in the beautiful Aotearoa New Zealand with my partner, and my cat, sipping endless cups of tea. I am a passionate creative, and I love my day-job at the local indie bookshop.
For me, making art is a mindfulness practice, a self-expression, and a home-coming.
After attending a local bookbinding class, I fell in love with the art of 'scrappy bookmaking'. Making art from unsaleable books, giving unwanted materials a new life, and the deliciously creative process had me hooked: I became a book artist.
THE JOURNAL-MAKING PROCESS
Each journal is thoughtfully curated, with materials being built up over time and from many sources. I dive deep into the theme of the book, primarily using original material that can't be replicated (even by me!) so your piece is truly one of a kind. It is made to evolve and to wear over time, becoming a collaboration between me and you; growing as you grow.
Once the material has been gathered, I tear the pages to size and collate them into signatures. The signatures are hand-sewn into a cover upcycled from damaged or unwanted books, and the fun begins!
Once bound, is embellished with found, paper-based materials, upcycled textiles, and lots of washi tape. Pages may also be tea- or coffee-dyed, and pockets are included on some pages to keep journalling cards and memorabilia. When the journal is complete, it is given a name to reflect its unique personality. I pride myself on creating unique works that are full of character.
