Shop Springs to Life from Simple Values
My story begins in childhood growing up on a large farm, milking cows, raising orphan pigs, riding horses, and having every animal imaginable as a pet. Farm life helped me realize the value of self sufficiency and I set about learning all the skills I could that would make me less dependent on others and more fulfilled myself. I learned how to garden and preserve the food through canning, freezing, and drying. I learned how to sew and craft items needed or desired for myself, my children, and others. I learned how to raise animals and not only enjoy their companionship but also how to make good use of their products. I learned about good stewardship and worked to take care of my family and myself using best agricultural and environmental practices; always with a mind for protecting the earth. I learned how to make soap and candles and cosmetic products and I hope I never quit learning new skills that will enrich my life.
I have sensitive skin and 30 years ago I decided to learn how to make my own soap without all the added chemicals and dyes. When I began raising dairy goats I realized the gold mine I had in dairy goat milk. Goat milk has beneficial amino acids and vitamins, as well as, a PH nearer human skin. When used as a component in soap, the end product nourishes and moisturizes the skin instead of drying it. Gifts of goat milk soap are always welcomed by family and friends for years.
I have a son with Down Syndrome and when he was young I needed to make sure our house was a safe environment for him to live in. I began using cleaning agents that were safe and non-toxic and soon realized I could make these cleaning agents myself for a lot less money. When I spoke with others about making their own cleaning products they shared insecurities about taking the time to make the products themselves. I realized I could provide a service to others.
I don't like using paper towels or napkins more than necessary, so I make cloth napkins that can be used again and again. What an easy lesson to teach children about conservation than by using cloth napkins at the dinner table. Empty feed bags....I can't bring myself to throw them away so I make utility tote bags.
In short, my shop was created to share with others useful products handmade with simple and natural products that enrich our lives each time they are used.
