I use many locally harvested woods for these products turned on my wood lathe. Flowering crabapple, for example, provides a lovely light colored wood with heartwood contrast for some of the darning mushroom stems. Cherry has a lovely fine-grained wood that darkens slowly with age. Thanks for buying my work so that I can continue to 'use it up, wear it out; make it do, or do without,' as Grandma taught me.

5 out of 5 starsThis piece, I believe its traditionally used for darning, sorry if that's not the case, is so beautifully made! I use it to help form the ceramic mugs I make, and it was exactly what I wanted. The wooden finish is perfectly smooth but not in a glossy lacquer way, so for me it doesn't stick to the clay, and for everyone else, I imagine it works beautifully on yarns of any origin.
