These have a really beautiful subtly organic form and filter light in a very charming way. I have the incandescent version which use a small candelabra base bulb. A globe-shaped 60 watt equivalent bulb lights the globe-shaped fixture evenly...so pretty!

This lamp is a showstopper. Everyone who stops over mentions something about this lamp. A bonus is the "touch" dimmer. The light itself is beautiful. The design it makes on my walls is beautiful. Great purchase.

About

Light as material

lightexture is a collaboration between an architect, a lighting designer and a ceramic artist, creating unique designer lamps.

lightexture was established in 2008 by Yael Erel and Avner Ben Natan. The starting point was an accidental collaboration that lead to the discovery of an adjustable aperture mechanism that can sculpt and shape light. As it is adjusted, the iris-like light fixture dramatically changes the environment of a space through the volume of direct light it emits, as well as the complex light textures it projects onto space (patent 8,025,430).

Later that year, ceramic artist Sharan Elran joined lightexture and expanded the pallet and vocabulary of materials into clay and porcelain. Together the three designers - an architect, a lighting designer and ceramic artist - have been collaborating to create a robust collection of fixtures that are both playful and sensual. Each of the partner designers brings in a different set of skills and sensibilities to the stage, which makes the lights a conversation through work.

“Everyday life is becoming much too public. Radio, TV, the telephone all invade our privacy: Gardens should therefore be enclosed, not open to the public gaze...Architects are forgetting the need of humans for half-light. A sort of light that imposes a tranquility, in their living rooms as well as in their bedrooms. About half the glass that is used in so many buildings – homes and offices – would have to be removed in order to obtain the quality of light that enables one to live and work in a more concentrated manner.” Luis Barragan (from "Architecture Theory since 1968" K. Michael Hays p.358)
