Creating ART to warm the HEART!

Who am I?
My name is Hayden Hopkins and I am a student at Euclid Middle School in Littleton, Colorado. I am an only child with a dog named Lola. I am left-handed, and I love to read, write, and draw.

Currently, my favorite books are: Out of My Mind, The Hunger Games, and To Kill a Mockingbird.

Why I like art and what inspires me…
I love art because it helps me relax. I am mostly inspired by my dog Lola, who is always there to protect the family. I love to draw animals and nature and love to spend time outdoors and with my dog.

How I got started…
I started by making bookmarks for my classmates for holiday gifts and later decided to make and sell them in the neighborhood and to family and friends. My very first Lightner design was a Golden Retriever doing the yoga pose “down dog.” My mom was having her yoga class over to our house and asked me to make a welcome sign. We kept it and later used it for a card.

For my 11th birthday (September 2018) my parents loaned me money and we launched LightnerDesigns. “Lightner” is my middle name and was my great-grandma’s maiden name. Both my family and friends have supported me by giving me advice and many have bought cards.

What is my process for creating cards?
To make my notecards, I first get a good idea of what I want to draw by looking at pictures or thinking of something in my head. Then we scan the art and upload it to the computer. We carefully erase unwanted pencil or paintbrush marks and "clean it up" for print. After the picture has been edited, we email the picture to be printed onto notecards. After the cards are printed, my mom and I fold and package them to sell.

What is my vision?
I hope to grow my business and have my cards in more stores. I also want to be able to give a portion of my proceeds to charities that help kids and dogs and save some money for college.

If you have any questions, please contact me! We'd love to hear from you!

***Please note: We are a small batch shop, so our quantities are limited. However, we can usually print within a couple of days, so if you see a style that you like and would like a larger quantity or a different type of card, please contact us!
