I like building things.

I started my woodworking business in January of 2012 and it's been doing quite well, which is good since it's my only source of income. The vast majority of my business is my apocalypse-proof platform bed frames for the locals, with my snazzy hardwood picture frames filling in here and there.

I've been building all kinds of things since I could say "screwdriver." I decided to focus on woodworking because there isn't a job out there that utilizes all of my skills and interests so I needed something that would keep me happy. Unlike most woodworkers, I'm not all that interested in making really high-end stuff (except for my picture frames), as I like the idea that "regular" people can afford my bed frames and other things. I don't like that people who don't have lots of money to spend often end up buying things made of particleboard; what I make costs about the same but it's essentially indestructible.

I'm a photographer too, which is how the picture frame side of the business got started. When you see "walnut picture frame" in a custom frame shop, it's more likely than not a walnut-colored finish over some generic wood. My profit margin is much lower than such places but I really like that when you get a walnut frame from me, it's actually made of solid walnut!

Welcome to my shop*. I make hardwood picture frames and I also sell my fine art photography here. I use only American hardwoods and I glue (instead of stapling or v-nailing) the corners. I reinforce them by gluing in splines of contrasting wood, though I can also make the splines of the same wood as the frame if asked. You can get any of my made-to-order frames in any of the profiles you see on any of the frames in my shop, so you're not limited to the profile shown in any particular listing.

I make my own food-grade beeswax-based finish which enhances the look of the wood without changing its character. I am also now offering shellac as a finish option which is much more glossy than the beeswax. It is 100% natural, in fact, you've eaten it on fruit and pill coatings.

Many of my photographs were made on my yearly winter adventures from the northwest to see my family in Arizona. I four-wheel my way to hot springs, endure snowstorms and rain, sleep in 10 degree cold in the back of my solar panel-equipped truck, and go through lots of film along the way, especially in Death Valley. I made my other photos in Yellowstone, Humboldt (where I used to live), and Oregon.

Important note: there is natural variation in the woods I use for my frames, especially red cedar. No two frames are exactly alike. Also, some woods change color over time. My red cedar frames are initially purple but quickly age to red and eventually end up as a medium red with a bit of brown. Cherry starts out golden but ages to a brownish-red after a few months. Exposure to sunlight accelerates the aging process but the woods that change color will do so eventually even with only indirect light.

I do not accept refunds on the items I sell except in unusual circumstances. I am very careful with the photos I take of my items to ensure that they represent them accurately.

My frames are not mass-produced to look exactly the same. They are made of wood with natural variation, which I think is part of their allure. I do my best to make things pretty consistent with what you see in the item photos but ultimately it isn't entirely up to me, especially with some woods like red cedar.

If it is extremely important to you that your frames look a very specific way, send me a message about that BEFORE ordering. I can accommodate most reasonable requests but I will not issue refunds for items because they look slightly different from the pictures.
Payment
For ready-made and made-to-order items I need to receive payment before I begin making your purchase. On large custom orders I may ask for full payment up front or a deposit (with the rest to be paid just before the item ships) depending on the situation. I do not accept cancellations on made-to-order or custom items. I do accept cancellations within 2 days of purchase on ready-made items.

I accept Paypal, cashier's checks, and money orders.
Shipping
I ship via Fedex or USPS ground, usually the former due to better tracking. Other options are available at additional cost.
Additional policies and FAQs
Custom orders:
I can make almost any frame one desires, including big frames for stretched canvas, frames with wood or silver inlay, etc.

I can customize picture frames for you in almost any imaginable way; the listings you see in my shop are examples of what I can do but don't feel that you are limited to what you see here. I can make you a three-sided frame four inches thick with a garnet-tinted finish if you want.

Moldings:
If you want to make your own frame(s) but want to use real wood, I can make picture frame molding with or without the finish, in your choice of profiles. Gluing and reinforcing my assembled frames takes a lot of time, so buying ready-to-assemble molding from me is a less expensive way to go.

Wholesale:
I am very much open to selling my frames in wholesale lots. I took a production-minded approach when building my wood shop, so I can produce frames in quantity relatively quickly without sacrificing quality.
