On Etsy since 2017

I have been owned by small parrots since 2011.

Shop members

  • Shawna Theobald

    Owner, Designer, Maker

Hello there! I have been a parrot slave since 2011. Currently I have four "lil monsters" - two birds and two kids! I enjoy making toys for the birds and hope to share some of my toys with your flock!

  • Josh

    Assistant

My husband, Josh, officially started working with me in June 2023! He is the one cutting, dyeing, and drilling parts for me to make toys for you!

  • Ripley

    Toy Tester

Adopted in August 2018 at the age of 19, Ripley is a Jardine's Parrot who enjoys balsa, pine, and cardboard! He has no contact with materials or toys that I sell, but he does get to test out some designs before they get listed!

  • Bosco

    Toy Tester

Bosco is a Lineolated Parakeet! Brought home in May 2023 at the age of 1, Bosco loves noisy toys, balsa, mahogany pods, and sola. He also has no contact with toys or materials, but gets to test out the smaller toy designs!

Frequently asked questions

Returns and Exchanges

Health and safety of my customers comes before all else. For this reason, I do not resell an item once it leaves my shop to prevent the risk of spreading disease. This means all sales are final, no returns will be accepted.

I am happy to answer any questions or respond to any concerns you have prior to purchasing. Please reach out to me before checking out to be sure what you are buying will work for you and your pet!

Custom and personalized orders

Yes, I'm happy to work with you on a custom order! Please note that depending on other orders and the complexity of your own, turn around times may be longer for custom requests.

Is your workshop bird free?

Yes, my workshop and office are on a separate level of my house that has it's own entrance. My items and packaging never are in the same air space as my personal pet bird or cat. My dog does have a bed in my office as he has separation anxiety.

Do you offer international shipping?

If you are outside of the US or Canada, please visit www.lilmonstersbirdtoys.com to checkout, or send me a message for a custom listing. Due to packaging laws in Germany, I am unable to ship there.

Wholesale availability

At this time I do not offer wholesale prices.

Do you make toys for large birds like macaws and cockatoos?

It depends. Since my shop is targeted at the birds I know best - small birds - my experience with larger birds is limited. My materials, too, are catered to smaller beaks! If your large bird tends to be more of a gentle chewer or prefers to shred, then my shop may be a good fit! Otherwise you're hard earned money may be better spent elsewhere.

What kind of hardware do you offer?

All metals are nickel plated or stainless steel, and I will always specify which in the listing.

Quicklinks

By default, I do not include quicklinks as people have their own preferences.

If you would like to add some to your purchase, please check for the listing.

Are your toys safe?

I try to be very diligent in all aspects of toy making, from the materials used to the way they are used. That being said, every bird plays different, and it is ultimately your responsibility to ensure that the things you give to your bird are safe. If you have any questions about any aspect of my toys, please send me a message.

For Dinosaur and embedded bead shapes:

Some birds with long, thin beaks may get their beak inside the 7/64" (~2.78mm) hole on the 8mm beads. For these birds we recommend the 9.5mm" balls as they have no hole. This makes them also a harder wood to snap than the beads.

What do you use to dye your toys?

Toy parts are dyed with Vitacritter, a dye specifically made for small animals and birds. The exceptions to this are black, brown, light blue. These colors are made with Americolor food gels.

I mix colorants with 70% isopropyl alcohol. This is because it helps the color set quickly, reducing how wet the materials get, and thereby decreasing drying time. This limits the chances for mold.

Isopropyl alochol also disinfects, just in case there is anything on the wood, and evaporates completely when dry.

Since these are water based dyes, it is totally normal for these to sometimes run when they are sprayed or splashed with water.

Most items are available without any dyes if you prefer. Just let me know at checkout!
