About

Honey, I shrunk the jewelry...

This all started thanks to another Etsy seller who was willing to tell me how she made shrinky dink art! I started experimenting and soon, I was off!

I enjoy using shrink plastic not only to hear customers at craft fairs say as they approach, "Oh my God, is that SHRINK DINKS???" but also because it seems like such a direct way to make just about anything you can think of. I am interested in learning more about some design programs that would allow me to make some designs on a lasercutter, or in a 3D printer, but still nothing quite satisfies me as much as just sitting down for a nice, therapeutic coloring session!

Each piece is drawn by me, colored with Prismacolor colored pencils, and sprayed with a sealer to protect the color. I can make custom items, so feel free to contact me with any ideas that come to your mind, and I’ll try to make it a wearable piece of jewelry!

I love that it's something that attracts kids' attention and makes them feel like artists no matter what they come up with! Even if they just turn a few squiggles into a necklace, it feels like such an accomplishment! Through this interest, I've been doing some workshops here in Pittsburgh with kids on making shrink art jewelry, mostly in after school programs, and ESL student clubs (former English as a Second Language teacher here, so I have a special place in my heart for working with kids learning English). I'll also be doing one soon for adult English learners in a family literacy program in the area, so I'm very much enjoying bringing the smiles that come with making shrink art to as many as I can!
