ALLERGY ALERT: Please read all descriptions of products (ingredients, scents, added textures & botanicals) before placing your order. Although I clean all equipment before and after making a new batch of soap, lip balm, perfume oil, etc., there is always the chance for cross-contamination. If you or someone in your family is extremely allergic to an ingredient in ANY of our products, please check with me to find out if that ingredient will be an issue for you. It's kind of like when a food package says, "Made in a factory that uses such-and-such ingredient."

Contact me with any questions you may have about the ingredients. I'll be happy to hear from you!
    Thank you!

Thank you for shopping at Lippincott Soap Company LLC and Happy Latherings!

    Care instructions for Handmade Soap

Handmade soaps take a little extra care than commercially produced soaps. Handmade soap bars will last longer if they are kept out of standing or running water. They should be kept on a grooved soap dish that allows water to drain away. They should also be allowed to dry between uses.

Handmade soaps tend to be slightly softer than their "grocery store" counterparts. Even though my handmade soaps are made with "hardening" oils that create a longer lasting handmade soap, they do not last quite as long as mass produced soaps which are made with drying and hardening additives. One bar of my soap can last a family of four about 3-4 weeks, but it will vary greatly on how often it is used and how it is stored between uses.

    What is cold process soap?

The type of soap Grandma made is called “cold process” soap. It is made by combining oils and/or fats with sodium hydroxide (lye). The chemical reaction that is created from combining the oils and/or fats with the sodium hydroxide is called “saponifaction.” During saponification, the oils and sodium hydroxide mix and become soap. The entire process from mixing to curing takes 5 to 6 weeks. The types of oils, additives (such as botanicals, oatmeal, loofah, etc.) and butters used in the process determine the kind of properties the soap will have.

What's the difference between handmade soap and

Soap that you buy in the grocery store pales in comparison to handmade soap. It is a massed produced product made in huge batches (we're talking 250,000 pounds or more) where the glycerin is removed and fillers are added. They are often full of chemicals and synthetic detergents. When I make my handmade soaps, I make them in small batches to insure that the quality of my soaps remains high. Also, all of the glycerin remains in the soap.

Next time you reach for that bar of grocery store soap, turn it over and read the label. If you can't pronounce the ingredients and don't know what they are, do you want to use it on your skin?

Why are handmade soaps more expensive?

M handmade soaps are made with the finest oils, butters, and ingredients. These high quality ingredients (i.e. cocoa butter, shea butter, olive oil, etc.) are very expensive to purchase individually. Making my soap is also a very labor intensive process. All of my small batches are measured, mixed, scented, poured, and cut by hand. When I say my soap is "handmade", I really mean it! My soaps have to cure for almost two months before they can be wrapped and sold. Each and every batch is then tested by my family (not on animals) before I sell it. That means that a lot of time goes into my soaps. And, because you are getting a product made with the love and attention that I give each batch, you know that you are getting the very best.

How do I store handmade soaps?

If you don't plan on using the soaps right away or are giving them as gifts, you should store them in a cool, dry, dark place to help preserve the fragrance (a clothes drawer works nicely and makes your clothes smell great, too).

As tempting as it is to keep your beautifully wrapped soaps laying around, I encourage you to use your soaps in the shower or bath. The true beauty and fragrance of your soap comes alive when the warm water hits it and you lather it up. Your skin will thank you!

Why do your soaps vary slightly in weight and shape?

All of my soaps are hand-mixed, hand-poured, hand-cut, and hand-wrapped. They do vary slightly by size and weight because of the nature of making handmade soaps. I believe that the "handmade" look of my soaps adds to the unique character of my products. I sell my handmade soaps by weight, not size. All of my soaps will weigh between 5 to 5.5+ ounces and approximately 3-1/2" wide x 3-1/4" high x 1" thick (unless otherwise noted in the listing). You may receive two soaps that are a little different in size, but I guarantee that every bar weighs at least 5 ounces (but usually much more).
