About

My story in more than one sentence

When I told my mother that I was making lip balm, she said, “What do you want to do that for? I sent you some last year, didn’t I?” **

Ever since I lusted after my first lip balm at the age of 6, I’ve been obsessed by products that pamper people. As I grew older, no matter where I went, I had to have at least three tubes of lippy within arms reach: in every bag I own, in every coat pocket, on the bedside table, in every drawer, between the sofa cushions, under the car seat... I am definitely a product junkie. But even after working with aromatherapists and Mary Quant cosmetics, I never dreamed that I might actually make this stuff.

And then my favourite lip balm maker decided to up sticks and return to Old Blighty. It was a loss, but I figured I could always find a substitute lippy. But as I was scraping the last remnants out of the last tube with a chopstick, I knew that if I wanted a substitute I’d have to make it myself. How hard could it be?

Hah!

A little cursory reading led to more in-depth reading, which led to months of intense research, which led to ordering materials and experimenting, which led to more research, which led … Making the stuff turns out to be the easy part. Coming up with a formula that meets my extreme standards for smooth and creamy lip balm with enough durability and just the right subtle degree of flavour—that’s a lot more challenging. Did I succeed? I think so—at least my lips think so. Will I keep trying to perfect my products? Of course I will. Lippydudu is here. Enjoy the ride.
