It's the little bitty things...
So I've had this Etsy shop for a while and it didn't take long for my mom, Joyce, to request a shop and website. After thinking about it, I felt that we'd be stronger as co-owners than as individual shop owners. Plus we'd combine 60 years of experience. Yes, 60. We've been passionate about what we're doing since each of us were 10 years old!
Joyce learned to sew by making Barbie clothes with her mom hovering nearby. Her mom would often have her rip out seams if something wasn't quite right. I can't imagine how tough that was on such a small scale with Barbie clothes! It's that stick-to-it attitude that keeps us both coming back to a project, even when it's tough or not going quite as we wanted, and see it through to completion.
I sew a little, but was always encouraged by my mom to pursue creative outlets. I'd often get in trouble raiding her craft cabinets for acrylic paints, brushes, and anything else I could find. Since then, I went to art school and now work full time as a graphic designer in Chicago. Mom still tries to get me to move back to St. Louis, but I think she secretly likes the excuse to come to the windy city and visit.
We're both Pinterest addicts and are always on the lookout for new ideas, DIY projects, and, of course, delicious recipes. With that in mind, you can be sure that this shop will evolve over time as we collaborate. It's really a great way to have fun together and experiment with new ideas. We have a lot of things planned, so keep checking back for new things!
The main thread throughout our seemingly scattered items is our love of giving thoughtful, handmade gifts to friends. Sometimes it's occasion driven, like a birthday, wedding, or having a new little one on the way. Other times, no occasion is needed to send a little love or encouragement. The smallest gestures can have a big impact!
Jessica has loved drawing from the very first time she could hold a crayon. This shop is an extension of that passion combined with her desire to help others.
