About

Modern day farmhouse sewing

When I was growing up I loved to read stories about women who lived on farms, or on the prairie and decorated their homes with beautiful, handmade items. I always dreamed of having a home full of unique things that I made myself, but I really had no idea where to start. My dad bought me my first sewing machine for Christmas when I was sixteen. It was a "little blue machine" from Kenmore. It was mostly unused for a few years, in those pre-pinterest days when I had no idea how to use it! Then someone offered to teach me how to make a quilt and my whole life changed! My first quilt was called "Garden Window" and I made it using purple and yellow flowered fabric--oh, how my tastes have changed! My second, third, and fourth quilts were log cabins, and two of them are currently on display in my living room. My little hobby was put on hold for a few years again when I got married and settled into a new life. When my first son was born my nesting instinct turned towards making totally unique things to decorate his room. I made curtains, a bed skirt and multiple quilts. When I was done, I knew sewing and quilting were my new loves. Just like those farmer's wives of "olden days" I've since filled my little house with quilts on the beds, the back of the couch, hanging on my walls and on pillow covers scattered everywhere. I've given them away as gifts to family and friends, and even sold a few. My tastes have changed and developed from those early yellows and purples to tend mostly towards red, gray and turquoise. I love to make traditional quilts, pillows, mini quilts and table runners in bright, modern colors. I also offer limited edition embroidered pillows, and hoops. With the launch of Little Blue Machine on Etsy, I hope to share my passion for filling a home with practical, useful, but beautiful items that are sure to make you smile!
