The Story of Little Celandine

I have always loved getting lost in the pages of a well-illustrated children’s book. As a toddler, my mother used to find me in my room, talking to the illustrations in my picture books. Cicely Mary Barker, Trina Schart Hyman, and Tasha Tudor are some of my all-time favorite illustrators. Inspired by the beautiful worlds they created, I started drawing and painting at a young age.

I put away my paintbrushes as a young adult, but after being diagnosed with a chronic illness, I found myself looking to create once again. This little shop was born in the winter of a very dark year, and it has proved to be both a bright spot and a wonderful creative outlet ever since.

The Little Celandine Workshop is named after a wildflower called the Lesser Celandine. Every spring, these flowers fill woodlands and waysides with their tiny yellow blooms. William Wordsworth so enjoyed this flower that he wrote a poem about it, a line of which reads: "There is a flower that shall be mine, 'tis the Little Celandine."

In the language of flowers, Lesser Celandine means "Joys to come." Isn't that a lovely message for us all? I believe there will always be joys to come, even in the unexpected waysides of life - we just have to remember to look for them.

Thanks for stopping by, and reading the story of Little Celandine. I hope you find something that brings a bit of joy into your life today!
