Announcement    Merry Christmas and a cozy holiday season to you! Thank you for visiting my shop! I can take custom orders that don’t need to be completed until late January. If you are interested I would love to collaborate on a project with you! Please note Christmas custom orders are now closed. I love exploring organic shapes and playing with fun glaze combinations. I also enjoy letting the clay take me in new and exciting directions when things aren't going exactly as planned. Some of my favorite pieces are the happiest of accidents. I make wheel-thrown, hand-built, and slip cast work. I have several pieces that were glazed in Raku firings.

Little Fig Wheelworks Launches in November 2020

Little Fig Wheelworks came to fruition after many years of growing my pottery habit and creating pieces for friends and family. The name is derived from a couple stories in my life. The first comes from my childhood home in western Pennsylvania. My dad, Javad, had a small orchard in our back yard. His favorite tree was a fig that he kept alive by burying every winter and resurrecting every spring. He loved that little fig tree and took great care of it. It only produced a few figs each year, but I think it reminded him of his youth in Iran. He passed many years ago, but figs always make me think of him.

The second story is that my husband, Joe, has a bonsai habit. In 2015, after several hints about his interest in getting a bonsai tree, I bought him a small ficus, known as fig trees, for Christmas. He went all in and we decided to create bonsai centerpieces together for our wedding in 2017. Joe worked on the trees and I made the pots. The collection kept growing. We now we have a couple dozen bonsai trees, several of them ficus, that were started from that original Christmas bonsai. Over the summer he was marveling at the little fig that had grown on one of the trees and that's how my store came to have the name Little Fig Wheelworks.
