Announcement   Whimsical hand made dolls that celebrate the innocence and spirit of childhood.

Please check my blog for news of new work http://www.littlejennywrendolls.com

Little jenny wren dolls are individually hand made by me, Jenny, in my teensy, tiny studio in Tasmania surrounded by books, flowers and vintage goodness.

I use the best quality natural fibres and my own unique patterns based on the Waldorf dollmaking technique which is itself based on long held European dollmaking traditions.

Each doll takes many hours to make, and many more hours are spent before the making begins, dreaming, and letting the idea of the doll swirl and float in my imagination until it begins to take shape.

My dolls embody the spirit and innocence of childhood, when the child sees its world wide eyed with wonder and joy. Dolls are a traditional toy of childhood, part of the equipment needed to learn and practise caring and sharing and loving and so many adults hold a fond place in their hearts for those innocent childhood days.

About

making dolls that celebrate the spirit and innocence of childhood

My dolls begin as an idea, a smile , a piece of cotton fabric and a large handful of soft creamy coloured wool fleece. I am surrounded by memories of my own sweet childhood and those of my children, by vintage children's books and vintage dolls, by my garden and flowers and music and life. My 'studio' is in the heart of my home, it's also home to bookshelves, the piano and the sunny window seat. It's a family space.

Each doll is made from the best materials I can find. It is a pleasure for me to work with the natural fibres and craft something that comes from what nature has provided.

From start to finish my dolls are the product of my imagination and my hands. All the knitting and sewing and dreaming I have done in my life, my childhood of reading and doll playing and make believe games in the playhouse at the bottom of the garden and in the bushland around my childhood home, my love of history and sweet old treasures, my own dear children... all these things come together and help me create my dolls.

Many hours of work and dreaming go into each doll. I have to say I am obsessed with them. I would gladly work each day at my table making new dolls. I look forward to each new day when I can go about my bliss, my doll making, here in my home surrounded by the people and things that I love.

I have been making things from fabric and yarn since I was just a little girl playing while my mum sewed. Now I create my dolls and their clothes in my teensy, tiny studio in Tasmania surrounded by books, flowers and vintage goodness. Love it.

Welcome to little jenny wren dolls.
My dolls come to you from tiny Tasmania, the island state at the bottom of Australia.
I have been sewing since I was little girl and loving dolls my whole life. I have been making my play dolls since the birth of my third child, my daughter, 14 years ago . My dolls are my interpretation of traditional European rag dolls in the Waldorf style. They are completely handmade from start to finish by me using my own designs, I do all the sewing and knitting, the stuffing and shaping, the embroidery and wigmaking. Each doll takes more than 10 hours to make and is truly a labour of love.
