Little Louie's Crafts Workshop

First,it's important to know that Little Louie was the most wonderful black & white English Springer Spaniel that a gal could have when heading into the 2008 Recession after being laid off. His positive attitude made me believe that the lay off would not last forever, and meanwhile we needed to get busy! So our shop specialized in making quality pot holders, microwave potato bags and bowl holders, and scrubbies. Little Louie would go to the fabric store with me and actually selected the fabric with his nose. It was a funny sight, but worked.
A few years past, I started a new career, didn't have time to work on our shop, so Little Louie retired. He was ok with that, as it allowed him to start a new career as well, one of writing career books for the elementary students. Louie pasted away in 2016, and fabric no longer held the joy it use to for me. So I went back to an old passion of
For two and a half years I drove each week to a community center to learn about fused glass. In many ways the work is similar to mosaics and stain glass...which I had training in. But it is also very different, with perhaps just a bit less control....once the glass is shut inside the kiln. The glass can move, it flows, and sometimes when I left the lid of the kiln I laugh like I use to when Little Louie was a silly puppy.
My workshop is in my one car garage, along with the kiln. As I need to park in my garage, I create my workshop each time I need it, as well as take it down. One does not waste an enclosed parking area when living in MN, so organization is key.
You ask what does all of this have to do with my workshop story? My hope is that you understand that what is made there comes from the heart and is made with laughter.
