About

A silly little knitty, owl-y lifeline...

I started knitting about 18 months ago. I'd seen people knit before and always been so impressed - how could they create something so beautiful so easily? Eventually I decided to take the plunge and went to John Lewis, eventually emerging triumphant and quite a lot poorer with yarn, many needles and a pattern.

Soon enough I was completely addicted. Knitting was always a refuge for me - an almost meditative way of getting rid of daily stress through calmly, repetitively making the same motions for hours. Rather than thinking about whatever had annoyed or frustrated me at work that day, all my attention would focus down to a small area that I was trying to perfect. It did me a lot of good.

Then a year ago I had a very stupid accident - falling over a tree root that had come through the pavement on my way to work. An instantaneous thing that unfortunately had rather large consequences. Without going into boring details, here I am a year later unable to walk, having lost my job and awaiting surgery. (Although in an aside - if anyone who ever reads this has complex regional pain syndrome, please do get in touch. I know what you're going through and it's dreadful.I'd love to help if I can.)

The good news is that the surgery will make things lots better so I am determined to focus on the positive! Hurray! After the accident, my knitting became much more important in my daily life. It had always been important, but suddenly it was a lifeline - in a fraction of a second, I'd gone from a very busy, very sociable and very active person to someone who sat in a chair all day. I COULDN'T BEAR IT. (Sorry for shouting but sometimes it makes me want to shout.)

And that's where knitting comes in. Knitting is one thing that I can always do. It doesn't matter if I can't get out of bed or I have to take lots of morphine for the pain that day, I can still find something I can knit, whether it's hours of stocking stitch or a more complicated section (I save those for the good days!). After a Christmas where every single present I gave to anyone was knitted (they were all surprisingly grateful: I clearly have a very kind family) my other half persuaded me to look into setting up a shop on here. So I did.

I specialise in designing and making one of a kind cardigans for babies and little kids. I have an absolute whale of a time mixing really bright colours together and creating felt appliques to fit a particular theme. I love colour and am committed to making very colourful knitwear - so if you're looking for something in a pretty plain pastel you may have come to the wrong place I'm afraid. I also love animals and lots of my cardigans feature animal appliques in one way or another.

I currently live in a very messy world of bits of yarn and felt all mingled around my sofa but I'm very happy: I may be the person who sits in a chair all day, but at least I sit in a chair and have something I'm proud of at the end of it. Well, most of the time. My ideas have been known to go disastrously wrong but I promise I'll never put anything truly awful up on etsy.

No orders so far, but I'm thinking positive - I know that call from Prada to design their winter knitwear collection is just around the corner... When you see every catwalk model wearing a dinosaur jumper, you will know my dream has come true.

Anyway, do drop me a line if you'd like to chat - it would be lovely to hear from people!

Hi! I'm Libby and I live in London in the UK. I love knitting (probably a bit too much, my other half would say) and design and make my own kids' cardies. They're very bright and colourful with cute appliques - fun and silly!
