About

It all begins with the simplest of tools, a blank sheet of paper, a pencil, an eraser, and a mind bursting with ideas

Everything that comes from out of Little Red Flag, with perhaps exception of a few typographical prints using fonts, begins with the simplest of tools, a blank sheet of paper, a pencil, an eraser, and a mind bursting with ideas to put down on paper. My desire to draw stems from a history of artists, whether a mother who painted and drew to pass the hours, or a Great Grandmother who was so gifted but had to pass on design school to fund her brothers medical education. It has always been in my blood, so I find great joy in finding a peaceful moment to sit and draw, and when I’m not sitting, I’m always thinking of what I will draw next.

My inspiration today comes in many forms, but most often comes from the imaginations and loves of my little boys. My shop had its start from a set of prints that I designed with my first son in mind when I couldn’t find a vintage set of aviation airplane prints for his nurser. About 75% of my store could be used in a nursery, because I know little boys and what they love, and their loves have greatly inspired what I put in my little shop. Once I have an idea of what I want to create next, I research. I make sure that if it is a phrase I’m going to letter, that it is not trademarked or copyrighted. I then begin sketching, and sketching, oh, and sketching some more. Some pieces are in sketch form for months, others for just a few hours, all until they look like the pretty picture in my head. From sketch form they are then inked using a light board to trace my original work. After I have a clean inked piece I then use my scanner to scan them into digital form. But the process is far from over. I then manipulate the image until the the edges are cleaned up, and eventually change the colors of the image to transfer into photoshop where I can manipulate background colors, distressed overlays and more. It is in photoshop that the image is given a little personality and spunk and where I can most customize the item for a customer.

The process is very similar for my gold leafs, but the end process takes a little longer. I still create images that I eventually digitize and print, and use as a “stencil” of sorts that I use in conjunction with a light board. I use high quality 18 kt gold leafing paint to create an outline, then apply adhesive, the composite gold leaf, and finally a sealer to prevent any tarnishing. The gold leafing prints usually take about an hour or more of work after the digitized stencil is created and printed. The more detailed ones can take up to two or three hours from start to finish.

-------------------------

Once I have created an item from a drawing, have created a finalized digital print, I am now in need of getting it from my digitized version into a printed version. I need to actually have it printed to create a new physical product. I rely on two local community printing companies to help me produce this final product. For a basic digital print I use a local university printer. I love that I can support a local university while having my prints printed on high quality machines on high quality medium. They take my PDF files and print whatever files I have sent them for that particular batch of prints. They use high quality laser printing which produces a crisp and true to color digital print.

When I want something printed on something like artist paper or canvas, I use another local printer that does old school screen printing, letter press, and some digital printing on artist paper and canvas. They are a small family run business who have the highest of standards for their work. They serve local artists who desire to create prints of their oil paintings, watercolors or artists like me who create digital renderings that desire to have their art printed on a more unique medium. I send them a large photo file of prints I desire to be printed and they print them on demand for me.

Welcome to Little Red Flag! Thank you for stopping by, we are excited that you are interested in our prints and home décor! While browsing through our shop, you may have questions, and while we have tried to answer the most frequent questions here, if you can’t find your answer here, please message the shop and I will do my best to answer your questions.

When you make a purchase from Little Red Flag, you are agreeing to the terms that I have listed below and throughout the shop, if you have a question about anything, I’d love to help clarify, so please ask. I work from home while also being mommy to three delightful boys under the age of 5, and while my children will always be my first priority, we have found a wonderful work/play rhythm that works well for us. Most emails and conversations can be expected to be responded to within a 24 hour period.

TURNAROUND TIME
Currently I ship once a week which means that most prints will be shipped within 4-10 business days of ordering, depending on what day of week you ordered. Check our shop announcement for specific turn around time, or feel free to ask the shop when a package would be shipped or when you would like to have a package by to see if it is possible. Most prints in the Little Red Flag shop have the ability to be customized to the color of your choice, which means they are printed after purchase, which requires the extra few days to ready them for printing, for the actual printing and for proper curing time. This turnaround time does not include shipping time. We ship USPS First Class that has a typical 3-5 day shipping period for domestic orders.

SAMPLE COLOR SWATCHES
If you are interested in ordering a sample swatch, we offer this for $1 plus shipping of $.50. This includes up to 15 color swatches so you can best match your artwork to your home décor.

MATERIALS & PROCESS
I choose to print on 130 lb Satin Cardstock to provide a high quality and sturdy print. I leave a small white border on the prints to aid in framing.

If you have any questions, message the shop and we would be happy to help.

Shipping
***Please see Shop Announcement for current shipping cut-offs or delays***

Prints are currently shipped within 4-10 business days, depending on the day they were ordered. We ship your purchase in a rigid cardboard mailer, and enclose the prints within sealed cellophane wrapping to ensure the prints are not damaged by water in transit. Chipboard is used in most cases to ensure the maximum rigidity in mailing so packages are not bent to fit in mailboxes.

Our current shipping prices reflect some handling. The shipping price includes shipping supplies (such as packaging, labels, cellophane, and chipboard), insurance if applicable, tracking, and postage etc.

DOMESTIC (USA) SHIPPING POLICY
Little Red Flag currently ships via USPS First Class. This includes Delivery Confirmation which provides tracking information. USPS states that the average delivery for a package sent First Class, will be 3-5 days, but occasionally arrives earlier or later than this stated time. We cannot be responsible for a delay in delivery as we are at the mercy of the USPS in this regards.

INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING POLICY
Delivery of an international package can take anywhere from 2-6 weeks. We currently only ship USPS First Class International. This unfortunately does not include tracking, as much as we would love to offer that. Please note that your package will go through Customs, which can often delay the package's arrival. It is not uncommon for a country to charge additional customs duty and/or import taxes on your purchase, which are the buyer's responsibility and should be expected. Little Red Flag orders are always marked as 'merchandise' on customs forms and will always reflect the actual value of the contents. I do not accept returns due to customs fees as this is the nature of ordering internationally and cannot be avoided.
Refunds and Exchanges
If once your package arrives, you are not satisfied with your purchase or your experience, please contact me directly. All refunds and returns must be made within 45 days of purchase. I want you to be happy with your purchase and will strive to have every customer of Little Red Flag satisfied with their experience with me. I offer refunds for the purchase price of the item(s) but cannot offer refunds on shipping.

In the event that you need to make a return/exchange please keep the following in mind. Little Red Flag will only refund the purchase price of the item(s), not the shipping. The buyer is responsible for purchasing return postage and adequate return envelopes (I suggest reusing the original mailer). To avoid a loss of a refund due to items arriving damaged, I highly suggest sending priority in order to be covered by insurance in the instance it is damaged during its return as I expect items to be returned in the condition they were sent. I keep my prices as low as I can to keep my designs as accessible to everyone as possible.

I will process all returns and refunds once the item(s) is returned back to me in its original condition or upon conclusion of a conversation in which I state I am issuing a refund.
If your item(s) arrive damaged due to shipping, please send a photo of the damage, and I’ll send out a replacement print(s) with my next set of orders.

International orders will be refunded after the package is presumed lost (after 6 weeks time). Please remember that International shipments often take a while to arrive due to Customs and travel time. Refunds cannot be issued simply because a package is delayed, as this is often to be expected and is out of the control of the shop. I currently do not accept returns due to customs/duty/country fees as this is something that is to be expected when shipping internationally and needs to be taken into account when a customer is ordering from a shop in another country.

If you suspect that your package has been lost in the mail, please contact me and I will do my best to resolve the issue with USPS first, if you have not yet called them yourself. In the event that the package has not been delivered in 20 days (Domestic only) I would be happy to resend prints or offer digital files and a corresponding refund to reflect what I typically charge for digital files.
Additional policies and FAQs
FRAMES & MATS
A common question I get is in regards to the Frames and Mats. We currently do NOT sell frames and mats, nor are they included with any of my prints. My listings show the artwork framed simply as a way of showing how the artwork will look displayed. The cost of shipping frames is simply something that I cannot offer competitively at this time. I have found several reliable sources for my frames that I would be happy to share with you.

TRADEMARKED & COPYRIGHTED MATERIALS
Another frequent question I get is to create prints with copyrighted material in it. As much as I would love to offer these things to you, it is morally and ethically wrong for me to create prints that contain trademarked or copyrighted material in it or to copy another artists work, and all requests of such will be turned down.

CUSTOM & WHOLESALE
I am open to custom and wholesale orders as my schedule permits. Let’s talk about your idea!

LITTLE RED FLAG ARTWORK RIGHTS
I work hard to create the artwork that I sell and reserve all rights to the art in this shop. Please do not copy, sell, or distribute any of my art. Your purchase from my store does not give you the right to sell, copy or redistribute the art.

Frequently asked questions

When will my item ship?

Unless we have stock left over in the color you order, I print-on-demand. I can keep our costs lower by not having to maintain an inventory of less popular colors, and it allows me to create custom colors for customers as well. Because of this, I print twice a week. Usually on Monday's and Thursdays and ship the day after I print. This typically requires an average of 4 business days after purchase, but can take up to 10 business days if there are unexpected delays. If you ever need something quickly, let me know. I'll do my best to get it there in the time frame you need.

Customization

Typically I don't charge extra for a customization. If you want a completely new print that I don't feel will be highly successful in the shop, then I will charge an additional fee for the time to design something new, and one of a kind. If you are just changing the color of the background, that is an easy change and I can discuss color customization prior purchase to meet your needs!

Color

Although computer screens have come a long way, there are several factors that influence what you see. For instance the color on your screen is in RGB and has a great color gamut (range) for several colors, but most printers print in CMYK which has a more limited color gamut (range) than RGB, most notably in more brilliant colors, such as a bright blue or teal. Also, your screen might be slightly different than mine, and I can't guarantee what you see, is what I see. But I gladly accept returns if something doesn't work, and are always happy to send an updated print.
