A note about framing

Because i'm based in the UK framing is often expensive and fragile to ship and therefore it's usually easier for you to have a piece framed locally. To try and help with this process i've supplied (on most of my listings so far) what standard sizes would be available for a print of that size. This means you can easily and cheaply frame it without having to have a custom frame made. Where this isn't possible i've given the standard frame size which is most likely to fit with a good matting cut to fit. Mattings are cheap and quick to have made by a local framer and will ensure your print fits into the frame well.

Some pieces aren't possible to frame like this due to their ratio - in this case the best option is to order a frame specifically. I am happy to help if you'd like me to frame a piece for you, however as mentioned above it would be easier and less expensive to have it made locally. If you have any questions regarding frames please do get in touch, i'm happy to help.

When i'm not preparing for exhibitions I am available to take commissions. Just send me a convo to enquire.

About

Art which references the golden age of Natural History

HOW IT ALL STARTED

I studied painting in Hackney, London some 20 years ago but after finishing I immediately landed a job working in design. The paints dried up, the paintbrushes were thrown away, and that might have been that. Except that 10 years ago I moved to Scotland, got my own studio space, and the rest is natural history.

I've been incredibly fortunate to build up enough of a collector base to support my practise and now exhibit internationally. I mainly show in the US, so if you're interested in seeing my work in person you can check dates here: http://www.littlerobot.org.uk/#!about/ciaa

THE WORK

My work is all based on a love of Natural History art of the 18th & 19th Century, it hit its aesthetic peak during this golden period. I've a thirst for the exotic and opulent so my paintings are rarely of domestic creatures or familiar landscapes, instead I tend to paint animals I could never hope to see here and reference cultures which i've only ever come into contact with through books and images. They're often embellished with gold leaf and artificially aged, although most of them are painted in ink I occasionally use natural pigments such as lapis lazuli and shell gold.

My work has been featured in the following places:
• Hifructose Online
• Juxtapoz Online
• Artist A Day
• Supersonic Electronic
• Moco Loco
• Arrested Motion

PROJECTS

The main project in the pipeline at the moment is a slightly fantastical Natural History book created entirely using copper etching techniques. These are the same techniques used to make books over a hundred years ago, and while some artists still make books in this fashion it's rare and the practise is now in a lamentable decline.

Shop policies

My store sells primarily Limited Edition prints of my original paintings. The prints are very high quality Giclees on Hahnemuhle photorag paper. These types of prints differ from regular digital prints both in their extremely high detail and also in their longevity. The prints should last you decades at least before any signs of natural fading.

Hahnemuhle has been manufacturing paper for artists since 1584 and this paper made specifically for printing on has a soft-feeling matt effect, it is also thick and therefore very strong. I chose it because it is very similar to the paper I paint on.

Limited Edition prints are exactly as they say - limited in number. Once the edition runs out there are no more prints available. Each one is signed by the artist and numbered in pencil on the outside border.

Accepted payment methods

  • Accepts Etsy gift cards
  • Other Method
Payment
Before payment is made you are welcome to cancel your purchase at any time. Once payment is made, if you should need to cancel, please convo me.
Shipping
All prints are printed upon receiving an order except in the cases where I have original prints already made (Such as linoprints or etchings). For that reason it can take up to 2 weeks to send an order, however generally it doesn't take this long, and if you have a special date you want your order by I will happily work with you to meet that. Just let me know in the message to seller box when you check out.

All prints are shipped anywhere in the world at a flat rate of 6 US dollars, and any additional prints in your order are shipped free.

All printed matter is sent Airmail International, it is not insured or registered as this is very expensive. However, you are welcome to ask me to insure or register your items and I will amend your invoice. All national mail is sent First Class again, if you'd like it insured and tracked please just let me know.

All original artwork including paintings, drawings, brooches, clothing, fabric is automatically sent by registered post, this is reflected in the shipping prices.
Refunds and Exchanges
I try to ensure that printed matter is well protected. All prints are sent in sturdy cardboard tubes.

If items are lost in the mail please convo or email me. I usually ask you to wait 3 weeks before considering an item lost as customs can occasionally hold items up especially in Canada.

If printed items are lost/damaged in the mail:
I always send again on the first occasion no matter what, you also have the option for a refund if your item doesn't arrive.

If Original work becomes lost/damaged in the mail:
All original work is sent by registered post which means it is trackable and insured, therefore please send me a message as soon as ou suspect it is lost or if it has arrived damaged and I will be able to organise compensation.
