Love my handmade necklace! The funky orange acrylic block glows in between the wood top and bottom. Lovely gift or personal treat to complete an outfit!

Absolutely, beautifully made. Thank you so much Claire for taking the time to pick it up for me; meeting you made it even more special. My husband loves it, the cuffs suit his personality very too ;)

About

Little Storm: handmade jewellery for those who love geometric shapes, delicate textures....and woodland creatures.

I set up Little Storm after studying jewellery design and silversmithing on the side of my day job working in an architecture office, and after years of dreaming of making pretty things! I still work in an architecture office, but much of the rest of my time I now happily spend hand making jewellery in my home workshop in Hackney, East London.

My years spent in the architectural world have helped me develop an eye for the geometric and an appreciation of more industrial materials and techniques, but I like to soften these harder elements by contrasting them with a lace printed surface texture, a delicately drilled pattern of holes, a coloured enamel chain, or a flash of neon acrylic. In all of my work I am interested in the interplay between the colours of different materials, contrasting surface patterns and shape.

Some of my current solid silver and gold-plated collections are lace textured, using a traditional silversmithing method called roller-printing which pushes the lace surface pattern into the metal using a roller-mill. I start by hand-cutting these designs from sheet metal that I have pre-textured with the lace, then I select my best designs to be made into moulds by fine casters in East London. These pieces can then be replicated in different metals, made to order or in small production runs. All finishing, polishing and construction of final pieces is done by me in my workshop.

I make other pieces in my collection by hand-cutting shapes from stainless steel, then heating the steel to temper it and give it its blackened colouring. Or I design my wood and acrylic pieces on my laptop using a program called Illustrator, and then have these designs lasercut / laser engraved from thin pieces of plywood or walnut sheet, and acrylic or plexi glass, by a small East London-based model shop. I then assemble the pieces using epoxy resin glue, and varnish the pieces to protect them.

I have recently developed my geometric designs in new ways, as well as creating some more organic shaped pieces, using delicate wire work.
