Announcement    Welcome to my Shop featuring Fine Art Prints, Original Paintings and Watercolors!

These prints are created from my original oil and watercolor paintings. I also have original paintings in oils and watercolors available.

I love sharing my art with a broader audience! I also have clients come to my studio to see and purchase art also. My studio is in Rockville, Maryland and also in Trout Run, Pennsylvania. I also enjoy working on individual commissioned paintings for my clients.

Contact me at Lauren [!at] LitwaArt.com with any questions or information on commissioned paintings.

My work is influenced by nature, imagination & dreams. I received a certificate in painting from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia where I received the William Emlen Cressen Traveling Scholarship Award which allowed me to travel throughout Europe for three months visiting some of the worlds finest museums.

My passion is painting. I love being in the woods and spending time at the beach. Being in nature is very grounding and helps me to paint my best work.
Taking care of our precious planet earth has become more important than ever. In my own way my paintings of landscapes are a love letter to the earth and a hope for a better future for our grandchildren.

The goal is to create a piece of art that can be a retreat from our hectic stressful world.
As Piet Mondrian said
"The position of the artist is humble. He is essentially a channel."

Exhibitions include the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Noyes Museum, The Philadelphia Artists Alliance, Center for Emerging Visual Artists, American Embassy in Brussels, Belgium, Delaware Center for Contemporary Art, Suzanne Arnold Gallery, PA State Museum, Nexus Gallery and Stuart Levy Gallery. Other Awards include the Elizabeth Greenshields Grant and residencies at the Margo-Kelb Dune Shack in Provincetown, Massachusetts and La Villa Arrigo in Florence, Italy. I currently am taking painting commissions. Contact me for further details.

Born to Paint

I graduated from The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia in 1984. I received The Cresson Traveling Scholarship Award which enabled me to travel throughout Europe for the summer and return for another year at the Academy where I studied with Will Barnet, Louis Sloan and Dan Miller.

Wherever I travel I use the opportunity to do plein air paintings including Acadia - Maine, Trout Run - Pennsylvania, Wellfleet - Cape Cod, Massachusetts, Amelia Island - Florida, Florence - Italy and Sedona - Arizona. Residencies I've attended are the Margo-Kelb dune shack in Provincetown, MA and Villa Arrigo in Florence, Italy.
Awards include Cresson Traveling Scholarship Award, The Elizabeth Greenshield Foundation, Purchase Prize at the Pennsylvania State Museum. Fellowship with the Center for Emerging Visual Artists. Exhibitions at The PA State Museum and The Delaware Art Museum, The Pennsylvania Governors Residence, FAME Fellowship of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, The Philadelphia Art Alliance, The Delaware Center for Contemporary Arts and Bridgette Mayer Gallery.

The main themes I focus on in my work are based on nature and spirituality. I feel strongly about protecting the environment and the health of all animals on land and sea. I grew up on land that was my grandparents farm and have loved painting barns. This subject matter continues to interest me. My barns are imagined rather than actual locations. I believe painting surreal places is like creating my own movie set. We are not alone in the universe and the mystery of other life in the universe also influences my paintings.

There are many influences in my work. Staying open to the process is very fluid.
