About

The Love of Art and Nature

I stumbled on ceramics quite by chance. I studied art in college, but I mainly concentrated on printmaking and photography. I tried many other media, including ceramics, but I couldn't conquer the potters wheel so I gave up on ceramics. So after I graduated I decided to take a photography class at a local art center. I was the only one who signed up for the class, so it was canceled. I flipped through the catalog to find something else to take and there it was; Beginning Ceramics. I figured why not? Maybe I'll be able to learn how to throw on the wheel after all. About 3 semesters later I bought a kiln and set up my own studio. I am in love with clay. While I did learn how to throw on the wheel, I still prefer to hand build most of my items. I feel they have more of me in them.

I originally opened my etsy shop to see if I could sell a few things that I had made. I'm in love with clay and create things from my heart and soul. I create because I need to create. Selling on etsy is a dream come true.

I love earthy colors and the beauty of nature. I love the changing colors of the leaves in the fall. I love snowflakes. I love patterns and textures and clean simple designs. I love shadows and light, which stems from my love of photography. The shadows that are cast by a piece are as important and interesting to me as the piece itself. And I love that a bowl can be both functional and a work of art. My work is greatly influenced by these loves.

My bright studio is set up next to my good friend and fellow artist/craftsman Michael's studio. Michael is a master carpenter and wood worker, who makes all of my custom shelving, storage boxes, etc... and he runs the raku kiln (The Fireman). Michael is my biggest fan and supporter, and you will see some of his work here at the shop as well.
We adopted a 3 legged cat named Buddy who likes to hang out and sleep in both our studios, depending on the day, the placement of the sun, and his mood.

I have always felt the need to create things. I like to try many different media. I find that each one influences the others. I am fascinated by shadows and light and with the beauty of nature. My work incorporates both.

Welcome to my shop. I create functional ceramic pieces that are also beautiful. I consider them all works of art, and I take great pride in my craftsmanship.
My work is inspired by nature. Like snowflakes, no two pieces are identical; they are all one-of-a-kind pieces. When I make a set of bowls, I make sure that they are all alike, not identical.
