I love creating for my “Horses of the World” series- where I illustrate horse breeds on maps that show where the breed originated from. 5 out of 5 starsExactly what I wanted for the barn, easy to use and looks so much nicer than a basic feed card!

About lizstaley
Every illustration is a chance to learn something new!
I’m Liz, and I’ve been drawing horses since I was a little girl. I grew up in inner-city Baltimore and wanted nothing more than to be around horses when I was a child. Unfortunately, this was impossible because of where we lived and my family being poor. I gave up on my dreams of horses until the age of 30, when a series of events led to me owning my first horse - a Morgan mare named Glory.
Owning my own horse and realizing my childhood dreams brought back my passion for drawing horses. I love to tell stories with my pieces and believe that every piece of art should spark wonder and a desire to know more. I developed the “Horses of the World” series while trying to decide what to do with a vintage atlas I’ve owned my entire life. The idea to take the pages and draw horse breeds that originated from the areas shown in the maps came on me suddenly, and the series now showcases over 30 breds of horses, 5 breeds of dogs (with more on the way!), and several mythological creatures.
Each of my illustrations starts with a research project and ends with the hope that I will inspire others to learn about the amazing animals of the world. I like to draw well-known breeds of horses as well as extinct and endangered breeds as well to encourage learning about and conserving the animals that have shaped the history of our world.
Don’t see a horse or dog breed you want? Get in touch! I add new breeds all the time (so long as I have the correct map!) and love suggestions. I also take commissions for pet portraits - no matter your pet’s species!

* FAQs
- Will you be remaking your old button designs?
Some of the old buttons may be remade. However I now only have one inch buttons, so not all the old designs will be able to be remade. (Some of the old designs have too much text for such a small button)
- Why did you switch to a one inch button instead of the 2.5 inch buttons?
My old machine was becoming a pain to use- quite literally. I got rid of it, and just recently purchased a brand new Tecre machine. This unfortunately means that I can now only make one size of buttons!
Any other questions? Please contact me!
