Art with Purpose
I have always had a job. Babysitting from age 11 until I was 17, volunteering at a hospital during the summers that I was 15 and 16. I never took any time off. I am a perfectionist. I have always been highly motivated and strongly passioned. This shop was born out of a need to get my feelings across to others about who I am. After working at a job for twenty years which I thought I would retire from, I was let go. I was devastated and spent the first couple of weeks in bed. When reality finally came to my senses, I started asking myself "who am I?" I started to realize that I was more than that woman who went to work every day, day after day. I have mentioned before that my Mother was a very good artist. Great really. Her skill intimidated me. My Mom has been gone thirty years tomorrow, and I still miss her. I had to realize though, that at age 48 which I was when I lost my job, I had to stop living in her shadow. So... after a lot of soul searching and asking friends if they thought my "stuff" was "okay", I had enough courage to start this shop. I finally realized that what I make is "art" not "stuff" and that some people admire it. The main thing is...I am doing what I love to do! I someday have a dream to do my art full time. My philosophy is, "Life is too short, enjoy the journey"! Blessed Be! Liz

FAQ: Why do I use plastic to line some of my custom cuff bracelets? Plastic is lighter and less expensive than the brass cuff blanks. Aluminum is also available, but as with any metal, it adds weight to the bracelet. Some people prefer not to have a bracelet that weighs that much. Back to the plastic. When I first started learning to do bead embroidery, a few sources referred to using cardboard, as in a cereal box, to line this kind of work. I didn't like that idea from the beginning. Not that I think they have an inferior piece, I just saw too many situations where it might go wrong. I am not the most perfect person in the world, and I am sometimes hard on my jewelry. I need something that will stand up to wear. When I heard about putting thin cardboard between the interfacing and the backing, I thought I could come up with something better. I was too afraid of "what if it got wet, maybe in the rain or if I perspire" (okay, I sweat!) Anyway, I didn't want to take the chance of having the cardboard get wet and melt or start stinking (it might happen). So, I came up with using a small piece of thin plastic in between the interfacing and the backing. It is very pliable, it molds to the wrist beautifully and holds it's shape, and it won't matter if the piece might accidentally get damp. I am NOT advocating washing these items! I am merely saying that I believe the plastic lining will hold up far longer than cardboard. After all, I put many, many hours into each one of these creations and I want them to be heirlooms for many years to come.
