About

Woven wall hangings past and present

My current artistic venture is into traditional tapestry weaving techniques, creating one of a kind woven wall hangings. I have taught myself how to weave over the past three years, craving a hobby to busy my hands during a particularily rainy December. I am left astounded by Navajo and Chilkat blankets, and love learning about natural dyes and loom building techniques. My weavings are sometimes geometric in pattern, and are always explorations into colour and texture. My materials are mostly recycled yarn I gather from thrift stores or by pulling apart old sweaters or scarves, though I am learning simple spinning and dyeing techniques as well!

I love the history of woven wall hangings, used in medieval times to insulate cold stone walls in houses, and often decorated with images of the garden and the natural world to remind its viewers in the midst of a winter that summer would come again. I have worked on looms made from objects as humble as cardboard boxes, to the intricate computer-operated Jacquard loom. I am excited about the possibilities of weaving, and the preciousness of the woven object.

Welcome to my Etsy shop!

My work is inspired by the environment of Pacific Northwest, bringing my experiences from the mountains, forest, and ocean back into my work in the studio. I strive to create beautiful pieces that will look great in a frame, on a shelf, or carried around with you!
