About

Turnip & Doe: Between Two Sisters

The name Turnip & Doe came from a nickname that my mom gave to me and my baby sister. I grew up as an only child for twenty-some years, and in the past year I discovered that my mother was expecting a baby girl. When she was born, she had a full head of hair and a big, smiley, round face. We called her Turnip in account of her, well, turnip-shaped head. My traditional Mongolian name meant "doe" or "baby deer". I was so delighted to have a sibling in my life, I knew I had to create something that shared the happiness I felt when I was with her. I've always had a big interest in fashion and style, and taught myself to sew my own clothes years ago before going to school for fashion design.

Over the years I gravitated towards textile crafts and knitting - most importantly, the slow, methodical, and meditative process of creating long-lasting treasures by hand. I don't believe that all baby clothes have to be either pink or blue. I try to design pieces that are practical, unique, fashionable, and somewhat mature, yet naive in its simplicity.

All knitwear by Turnip & Doe is hand-knit in Portland, Oregon.

How to care for your hand-knit garments:

I would recommend hand-washing in warm water with soap or detergent, rolling in a towel to remove excess moisture, and laying flat to dry. Hand-washing will extend the life of your knit garments.
