About

Modern Vintage Jewelry - Beauty entwined with beads, symbols and scrolls

Modern Vintage Jewelry includes symbols like scrolls and paisley. I find they flow well in my jewelry work in some form or another giving a baroque / art nouveau appeal. I feel it's important to have a little bit of art in your everyday so my pieces have a look of bygone eras. You can easily add these pieces to your wardrobe to team with special wear, work wear and casual wear.

So what is modern vintage style? Literally it's mixing old with new. When talking about a home, if you use all new the building can seem like a showhome devoid of personality. If you were to go fully old it would convey a museum like feel. So modern vintage is finding the balance and contrast between the two, which is right for you, whether it's you home or your wardrobe.

How do you wear modern vintage? You could accessorise with vintage or vintage inspired pieces. Don't wear vintage from head to toe, incorporate pieces from several eras and a classic piece to balance. While contrast is the key, create visual harmony by combining styles that share a design ethic.

How do I wear and make modern vintage? I choose classic clothing styles, add some floral and paisley prints. Look for collar or sleeve details from vintage styles. My jewelry designs use a variety of modern techniques with beads, wire and soutache braid combined with vintage colours, shapes and visual appeal from earlier times.

I've been making things since I was a teenager and played with lots of differing crafts. I made my childrens clothes when they were young and my own for many years. Then I discovered cross stitch and hardanger amongst various embroidery techniques.

About 7 years ago I went to a class to learn a wire coiled necklace and got hooked. It was a simple step to beadweaving, soutache, wire wrapping and more. I use various tutorials (too many to name individually) to learn various techniques, and get ideas for how to start something or an element to blend with others. I also write tutorials for soutache work and teach them at local beading groups.
Thank you for visiting Wattletree Lane, I hope you enjoy choosing items for yourself and gifts for loved ones.
Best Regards Lorelle
