About LorieKleinerEckert

Here is the larger story behind my quilts:

After twenty-one years of marriage, I divorced in 1994. Having been a stay at home mom for all those years, I needed a job, thus I decided to turn my hobby of quilt making into a paid profession, thinking I would go out on the quilt lecture circuit.

There was a problem with my plan, however. Though I am a very fine quilt designer and technician, I am not the world's greatest quilt artist, so how would I compete with better quilters targeting the same audience? My solution was to make quilts with words and symbols pieced into the design - because no one else was making such quilts - and therefore I could stand alone in my field.

With this concept in mind I started to make my wordy quilts. It was only after I was finished with the first dozen quilts that I realized my quilted words were generic and could be appreciated by anyone, not just quilt makers. Thus, instead of calling myself a Quilt Lecturer, I labeled myself a Motivational Speaker and began to market my talk to every sort of group from PTAs to Procter & Gamble, with a quilt guild thrown in every now and again for good measure.

In ten years of public speaking I addressed 260 audiences in 11 states. I also had the good fortune of attracting Pelican Publishing Company to my door. Ultimately, they published three books of my work. The first two books are adult picture books that are illustrated with my artwork, you guessed it, quilts with words and symbols pieced into the design!

Check them out: With This Ring I Journey tells the story of the journey to self-acceptance and love. Get Quiet and Listen tells the story of having the courage to say YES to life. Both books are "vintage," having been published originally in the 1990s but they are still available here in my Etsy shop!

My creative journey continues today. I am now the author of four books. I write various blogs: a slice-of-life blog, a book review blog, and a blog about my 30 years as a quilter. I am also a quilt designer and pattern maker. I hope you will follow my creative journey by subscribing to my newsletter/blog at LorieKleinerEckert.com. After you subscribe, please write me to let me know which poster you would like. I will send the PDF file to you via email. Here's my address: Lorie [!at] LorieKleinerEckert.com

Lorie
